Your Itinerary

Glen Moray Distillery

We love kicking off the tour with a visit to Glen Moray distillery which usually has 3 single casks on tap which you can taste and then bottle yourself with a hand written label. They have other fantastic whiskies available to taste and this is often a tasting highlight for out guests.

The BenRiach Distillery

A hidden gem, Benriach does amazing things with peat and port pipes. Even if you're not a fan of peaty whiskies they have something to suit all tastebuds. The team will happily allow you to taste wee free samples in the shop or if you want to treat yourself you can sit down in their tasting room and enjoy a tutored tasting of anything from the range including whiskies 30 and 40 years old.

The Macallan Distillery

If you would like Macallan included please let us know as soon as you book so we can check availability for you as it sells out well in advance. Monday to Wednesday Macallan currently offers 1 tour per day that includes a private tour with tastings, lunch and wine pairings. This experience is £1500 and only available on a very limited basis but if it's of interest please let us know and we'll be happy to make enquiries for your chosen date. Alternatively if you are visiting Thursday-Sunday let us know and we can send you any available options as everyone needs to book to get past the gates. No exceptions. Even if you just want to visit the distillery and look around the shop this is called a boutique experience and must be booked in advance. Just let us know and we'll do our best to find you something at Macallan. This is is the case for all tour companies without exception.

Speyside Cooperage Visitor Centre

A popular option this year has been the Speyside Cooperage tour (£5pp) that gives you a real insight into how important casks are in the process. It’s a working factory and they are paid per cask so it’s a busy place with some fantastic craftsmen working below as you tour from above the workshop. This is optional but we highly recommend it. If you're interested please let us know and we will book you in for a tour in advance and you pay for this on the day.

Admission Not Included

Sidings Cafe

Lunch is usually at the Sidings Cafe which is a converted train with delicious homemade soup, quiche, sandwiches, cakes, tea, coffee and soft drinks. We love this place and know you will too.

Aberlour Distillery Brand Home

Aberlour Distillery visitor centre is one of the smallest in Scotland but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for with its whisky. They allow one free taste per person and they often have distillery only releases open and ready to be enjoyed. With an abundance of gold medals (including trophies for the best single malt of all), the Aberlour distillery is consistently recognised in the most prestigious international whisky competitions for producing single malts of exceptional quality and depth. But don’t just take their word for it – we would much prefer that you judge them for yourself.

Glenfarclas Distillery

One of the last family owned distilleries Glenfarclas holds a special place in our hearts. The staff are very friendly a knowledgeable welcoming you in to their beautiful tasting room to sample the 10 and 15 year old expressions free of charge.

The Glenlivet Distillery

Time permitting we sometimes pop in to the Glenlivet for a tasting. If this is one of your favourites please let us know and we'll make sure there's enough time to visit (so long as it's a day they are open).

Tomatin Distillery Visitor Centre

Last but most certainly not least is often the Tomatin distillery (if there's still time) to taste some of their latest whiskies including up to 5 single casks which change throughout the year.

This tour is an absolute must if you’re in the area! My wife and I were on our honeymoon and booked this for the two of us and we absolutely loved it! We had the best time with our tour guide Liam who joined us while we had our tastings and was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about whisky and the history of the area! We also got to taste a few additional local whiskeys out of the boot with a traditional quaich. Please don’t hesitate to book this, you won’t regret it!

We toured various distilleries, Glen Moray, Benriach, Abelour, Glenallichie, and Canthhu as well as having lunch at a great small pub! The pub had a wide selection of whiskies. Liam gave my husband and myself a wonderful day touring Speyside area of Scotland!

Both the whiskey and the company were amazing. Our guide Gavin made us feel comfortable immediately from hotel pickup all the way to drop off. He was friendly and funny and had tons of fantastic information about the countryside, whiskey, and the distilleries we visited. He was great for recommending different whiskeys to match both my and my husband's tastes (wildly different), and he recommended (and called for us!) a wonderful place for dinner afterward. 10/10 amazing.

This was an amazing tour. Gavins knowledge of the area, whiskeys and history was over the top! Friendly and lots of laughs. You finish the tour feeling like family. Since I got back, I have been bragging to all about this tour.

My Gavin review: Gavin at Inverness Whisky Tours is excellent. He took fantastic care of me and my family on an amazing day tour of speyside and highland distilleries. He’s knowledgeable, kind, had an easy sense of humor, and went to great lengths to customize the trip to our preferences. He has inside information about some of the distilleries and it was clear that folks at each of the distilleries knew him well. His explanations of Scotch whisky, ability to get us a few free drams, and his willingness to share some drams of interesting whisky from his own personal collection added a personal touch that made the whole day spectacular. We won’t forget our day with Gavin anytime soon. Can’t recommend enough.

We had so much fun with Gavin. He made the entire experience, from planning to execution, so easy. From pick up to drop off he ensured we had the best day. It is obvious he loves what he does and passes that joy in to his clients. If we’re ever lucky enough to come back to Inverness we wouldn’t hesitate to do another tour with him.

Liam was a fantastic tour guide for whiskey. He shared his knowledge of whisky and of Scotland it self. He assisted and worked with us making the day fun, relaxing and stress free. Would recommend anyone who is interested in scotch and regional history. Fantastic

We had a FANTASTIC day! I’ve traveled all over the world and our guide Willie was one of THE BEST I’ve been had! He truly made our day special! Truly a 5 star experience. Can’t recommend enough!!!!

Greg_B

We spent a wonderful day with Liam who on our way to the first distillery educated us on how whisky in Scotland is made. That was very helpful to understand what we were about to taste on the tour. We also squeezed in a Gin distillery. The lunch stop at the Siding cafe was very unique and great food. Being able to taste the different whisky’s right from the source was awesome. Liam’s enthusiasm and knowledge of not only whisky but of the area and Scotland truly made our day and will not soon be forgotten! I would highly recommend this tour if your in Inverness.
