Access to the caves was ok as I guess we were lucky and there wasntthat much of a queue as we did enter at 15h. The beach was nice as itsa nice area but it would have been nice to spend more. But that's because it's a ride away so you'll spend some time in the bus, unavoidable I'm afraid.

The Melissani Cave lake is a cool attraction certainly worth seeing. You are in a small row boat with about a dozen people and the guides are friendly and cooperative with taking pictures. The whole ride is only about ten minutes though and if you have to wait in line for an extended period of time to get in then the whole experience may seem less worthwhile. In our case the travel company guides did a poor job timing things and we ended up waiting in line in the heat for over 90 minutes for the ten minute ride. There is a smallish gift shop and snack bar there while you wait that may entertain you for a short time but that wears out quickly. The traffic flow around the site is also challenging and our tour bus basically got stuck which meant we had no choice but to wait out the long lines. Had we started the tour on time from Argostoli the lines might not have been so long by the time we got there, which increased our level of frustration. As a result we never got to go Mrytos Beach at all. Instead we were taken to another nearby beach that was supposedly less crowded. Our time there was limited though as a result of waiting so long at the first stop so it ended up not being that enjoyable. I don’t fault the travel company for the long lines — that’s what you get during peak season, but I do fault them for being disorganized and not having better plans in place. The whole experience could have been managed much better.

The beach was super fun and the cave was mediocre. Thankfully the line for the cave wasn't too long as the tour guide had said it could be much longer. But you're only in the cave for maybe 10 minutes. It's a pretty cave. But you get in the rowboat, you go around in a circle and you're done. The beach experience was totally worth it. I paid $55 and considering that a taxi to the beach each way would at least be $25 or a car rental for the day would be $100, this was a very cost effective solution. Highly recommend Avalon Travel!

Fantastic and very well organised trip. Our tour guide Lucas and bus driver could not do enough for you and were amazing. Very interesting info on the way to the most beautiful Myrtos beach and breathtaking Mellisani lake

Everything was perfect, from being picked up from our hotel, first stop Myrtos Beach, really beautiful beach but if you don’t get there early you stand no chance of a sunbed or umbrella, there is no shade on the beach apart from a nice beach bar but not very big, I would advise you buy a parasol beforehand but also I would not take young children as sea quite rough and because it’s pebbles you struggle to get in and out of sea as it’s sloping. We then went to Mellisini lake absolutely beautiful then to caves. We had a lovely lady Tour Guide who gave us lots of interesting information as we drove.

We had booked the trip that stated there would be a maximum of 14 people but when we checked in at the port there was only a large tour bus. It was the same itinerary but just with more people. The trip to Melissani Lake was nice, the scenery and views of the water were very nice. The lake itself is a bit underwhelming. First there were tons of people there from the cruise ship so the line was very long and in the full sun. It took about 40 minutes to get through the line. You have to get on a small wood boat to be rowed around the lake. At least the boat we were in the guide did very little explanation about what we were seeing. It was beautiful but probably not worth the long wait. Next we went to Myrtos Beach, which was very beautiful and also pretty crowded. All the rental chairs were full but we just laid out our towels. The "beach" is actually a lot of medium size smooth rocks. That in itself was interesting but for some reason even though they were smooth it was still rough on your feet. Shoes, or really tough feet, are recommended. The water was a really amazing blue and pretty calm. The beach is pretty steep in the water and gets over most people's head about 20 feet offshore. What needs to be mentioned is the drive up and down to the beach. It a car it would be an adventure, on a tour bus it was nearly a suicidal journey. Do not ask me how that driver got us up and down that road, we left a nice tip just for making sure we lived through it. If you are uncomfortable on roads with steep hairpin turns with 800-foot shear drops, I don't recommend this trip on a bus. There was some narration along the way but it was very difficult to hear, the sites along are very nice so we just tuned out and used our imagination as to what things were. Overall, it was just OK. If you found a way to get to the sites on your own (taxi/private tour) you may have a better time and get to spend more time at the beach and less waiting in line.

Overall the trip was well organised and ran smoothly, we were picked up and dropped off close to our resort and all the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. On the way to the destinations the guide explained a lot about the island & what we were passing on the way which was interesting. Myrtos Beach was beautiful and well worth the visit, there is cafes etc for food and the stop of just over an hour was about right to get food, have a swim and dry off. Worth noting that there is not a lot of shade unless you pay for an umbrella so bring a hat! The Melissani Lake was beautiful, but there is a long line for a boat tour that lists about 5 minutes! Because of this I would recommend doing a tour that incorporates the caves as well.

Myrtos beach was stunning! Nice combo of main attractions in Kefalonia. For the reasonable price, we expected transport only but were pleasantly surprised at lukas’ good narration.

Beautiful Beach to swim but very rocky beach that was hard to walk on. Melissani cave was beautiful but hard to walk back up out of the cave - very steep climb.

Trish_B

This excursion was very relaxing and the views of the island were amazing. The boat ride on the lake is very short, and can be very busy during peak times.
