Seemingly sprouting out of the volcanic rock on which it stands, the hilltop town boasts a history that dates back to Etruscan times. Stretch your legs and walk around the town, seeing highlights like the 14th-century Orvieto Cathedral – a masterpiece of Gothic architecture with a glistening façade of stained glass, mosaics and sculptures. Soak up Orvieto’s charms and admire the countless churches that are scattered around its center.

Basilica di Santa Chiara

The Basilica of Saint Clare (Basilica di Santa Chiara in Italian) is a church in Assisi, central Italy. It is dedicated to and contains the remains of Saint Clare of Assisi, a follower of Saint Francis of Assisi and founder of the Order of Poor Ladies, known today as the Order of Saint Clare.

Basilica Papale e Sacro Convento di San Francesco d'Assisi

Great trip, with a really well informed guide. She managed to switch between three languages (4 if you count Italian) without making it frustrating for the group. Some great locations, but you’ll be wishing you had more time in Assisi. Lunch is mediocre, but it’s to not have to worry about planning it.

Christina (tour guide) was great! Overall, just a great day! Orvieto was such an added surprise…and the tour in Assisi was very informative!

Two part's to this review. The great and the ugly. The guide Cristina was awesome. Great energy and very courteous. Guided and kept a good pace, while giving plenty of free time. Was patient with slower member of group and made everyone feel great. Our tour in Assissi was led by another guide. This one was rushed and gave no free time. We did not get the option of visiting Santa Maria Maggiore in Assissi, Carlos Acutis incorruptible body is kept.

The tour is a very nice and organized from green line tours. Cristina our guide was very pleasant and knowledgeable as well as Mary our guide in Assisi Giovanni our driver was very good and careful even on the narrowest and bumpiest road which I appreciate very much being I get car sick very easily. Very comfortable bus ride Orvieto and St Francis highly recommended especially with this tour people . We had a great time .

A must for everyone. A lot is covered in a short amount of time and definitely worth every penny. Eduardo , the tour manager was fantastic.

Many interesting items , but the cross at St Francis conversion really touched me. The tour guides and bus driver were nice and informative.

This was a great trip! Our guide was excellent and seemed to really care about everyone on the trip. Orvieto was a lovely little town with a beautiful cathedral. We were also able to buy a couple of bottles of the well known local wine. In Assisi we had a local guide who was also very good. We enjoyed the tour of the town and seeing St Clare’s and St Francis’ Basilicas. The lunch was pretty good as well.

Our stop at Orvieto the historic beautiful church was interesting with amazing architecture & statues. It cost 5 euros & was self guided but well worth it. The included lunch at the next stop was fine. We enjoyed the scenic drive & getting away from the hectic pace of Rome for a day. The main attraction was Assisi. A local guide provided an excellent history of St Clare, St Francis & the medieval town. If you are interested in St Francis you need to see this. We saw his relics, his parents home & chapel, & the church built for St Francis after his death but no photos inside are allowed. There is also plenty of shopping & we had a little time for it, but wish we had more. Our tour guide (Sandra?) was very pleasant & helpful as was the young male assistant in training. She was attentive to our needs & did her best to accommodate our needs. The bus driver (Mario?) did an excellent job driving, we were so impressed with his skill. It was a long day, 13 hours & physically challenging. If you aren’t in good shape or have mobility issues, you will have difficulty. There are lots of steps, steep & uneven walkways. Otherwise I would recommend it for those interested in St Frances or history.

Sadly, the bus was 2 hrs+ late. Was told there was a fire delaying drivers route. Either way it affected the trip. Was told we’d get free wine with lunch which true but didn’t compensate for missed time in Orvieto. When we arrived at this town we’re told we had 20 minutes. That was only enough time to see the church. I’m Assisi was given a two hr tour which was interesting but had less than .5 hr to spend on our own. So if one wants to really visit these towns this won’t work for you. On the flip side, the escorts were nice enough and while waiting met other interesting travelers that helped pass the time.

The churches were absolutely beautiful! There is not enough time for both Assisi and Orvieto. The air conditioning was not working properly in the bus. It was hot and I felt sick! The driver and tour guide were very nice!
