We will visit Octagonal Room and the five surrounding rooms, the exhibition Raffaello Nella Domus Aurea. L’invenzione delle grotesque is accompanied by remarkable interactive and multimedia devices telling the extraordinary story of the rediscovery of ancient paintings buried in the "caves" of Nero's original Domus Aurea accompany the invention of grotesques.
The exhibition has a dedicated entrance. It consists of a walkway that, from the park of Colle Oppio, creeps among the ruins, touching them, until it reaches the Octagonal Room of the Domus Aurea, passing through one of the original underground galleries of the Baths of Trajan. Thanks to this idea, it is possible to discover the stratifications of history and the beauty of the underground environments of this extraordinary imperial residence. A luminous guideline leads directly to the heart of the Neronian building.

This was one of our highlights of our trip of both Naples (pompeii and Vesuvius) and Rome. The tour guide was great - just the right amount of background and detail about what we were seeing. The virtual reality really brought the location to life - I got goose bumps seeing it as it was in the first century AD. Would definitely recommend.

The company sold me tickets for a non-existing experience - the venue was closed and I was not informed about it. I bought the tickets a few months in advance and now I will have to claim my money back - the company has not provided me with any information so far!

Viator sold us a VR tour on a date that they didn't offer VR tours. Now I can't get my money back. Verify with Domus Aurea that the VR tour is actually offered on the date you want to go.

Waited 40 minutes in vain for someone to exchange our vouchers for tickets. Domus Aurea officials even had our names on the list, but no one from company ever met us. Called tour operator several times from site when things began looking sketchy. No answer! $125 down the drain!

The site was remarkable. The guide was excellent. It was disappointing that the tour was directed more to the Egyptian influence into Rome and Nero. I expected the tour to concentrate more and the virtual reality project to be centered on Nero and the palace.

Very good tour, but don’t pay the prices of Viator - the tour costs around 23 euro and I booked it via Viator for 65 Euro!

Our guide (Lana?) on October 9 at 2 p.m. (English language tour) was outstanding. Good English, lots of factual information but presented without dryness or pedantry made for a very quick hour. I had read that there were to be AR goggles toward the end of the tour (even the ad here says “…with Virtual Reality) and was disappointed that these never materialized. If by “Virtual Reality” the description refers to the video displays projected on the walls, someone should understand that this is not what “virtual reality” means today. So a bit of false advertising there. I was surprised by the extent of Egyptomania present in early Impreial Rome.
