Spianata Castelletto

From Piazza Portello we will take the public lift to Spianata Castelletto, where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the city. We will recognize the historical buildings and the stories related to them and we will taste a granita or ice cream before we start to explore the Genoese "creuze"

Chiesa di Nostra Signora del Carmine e Sant'Agnese

Walking along these beautiful footpaths we will reach the medieval village of Carmine. Here the storyteller will tell sing the first of his stories related to the city of Genoa

Funicolare Zecca - Righi

The historic funicular will take us to the Righi, the highest point of this tour. Then we will walk down some other charming "creuze" such as Salita Cavallo, where the storyteller will tell you his second story

Santuario della Madonnetta

We will stroll down another beautiful "creuza" called "Salita a porta delle Chiappe" and we will stop by another panoramic viewpoint where the storyteller will sing his third and last story, then we will continue to the Madonnetta Sanctuary, where you can see one of the most beautiful "risseu" (pebble mosaic) of the city

This was a really special and memorable experience. Allesandro showed us the soul of Genoa by taking us through the narrow streets that he discovered in the years of living and growing up in the city, and delighted us with stories of history, commerce, and drama - offering a glimpse into the rich culture of the region. Between the beautiful sights, hidden gems, and creative songwriting, we walked away from the tour with a collage of memories, fresh inspiration, and a deeper appreciation for the city. If you do go for this experience, I would recommend following up with your guide for a cooking experience as well - as you will not regret it!

Alessandro was the best tour guide! He took us into many areas of the city that you would not normally see and then sang songs that he had written incorporating the history of the area. He took time to help me find my glasses which I had left along the tour. Just make sure you can walk up and down hills for three to four hours! You get tired but with all the scenery you don’t mind! I highly recommend this tour!

Very entertaining with amazing views. The guide was kind and very engaged and informative, and we all learnt a lot from the experience. The wonderful views paired with entertaining songs and a nice scenic walk was just what we needed to fully enjoy the city of Genoa. Alessandro is an amazing storyteller, songwriter, and historian. This is the best tour I’ve been on. We did many things during his tour and he sang to us in mindful locations. The scenery was spectacular and well worth every moment. Of note, not negative, but one should be fit and able to walk up and down many paths. This was not difficult for me. A must do in Genova! Ciao

If only walls could speak… Genoa holds a resounding name that undeniably echoes its wealthy past, displays themes of a harbour city, Mediterranean natural beauty, and leaves you with a sense mystery due to its convoluted narrow streets and eclectic people. How luckier can one get than relaxing and diving into the unknown on a sunny September Sunday? 😇 even luckier. Feeling inspired to book a guided city tour right after my arrival from Milan (yes, apps will not help you much to get around), I found Alessandro online. He is a rooted local who is not only able to show outsiders quirky and concealed places from the sea level to the fortresses up on the hills, but who also speaks more languages and is a talented storyteller and musician. In various soulful settings along our three hour tour, he charmed our group (of four different foreigners) with guitar music and lyrics that he wrote himself. He kindly offered us water and local sorbet, answered all our questions and ensured I got my train back to Milan on time… This way, it felt like Genoa opened its heart and its treasure cases. If you truly want to get to know a place, get to know it's people. As a tourist, tours like this is one are the best chance to get a glimpse into the heart of such an interesting and complex city. Alessandro, takes you beyond the hardened walls, past the hustle and bustle of the downtown buildings into the calm neighborhoods of the local people providing insight into Genoa and it's people though time via his knowledge of the city, it's history and through his songs that convey likely lived experiences of those who have lived there. Genoa has been hardened by the practicality of commerce as a working port and, being a strategic port, marred by the ravages of war. This can best be seen in the tapestry that is Genoa's architecture. As you stroll through Genoa you will often catch glimpses of stunning historical architecture intertwined with buildings from various centuries, it takes effort to find many of these places as you can often walk right by them if you are not looking the right direction. Ravages of war, combined with the practicality of a working port and the need for new construction over centuries to keep business going, have made Genoa's historical elegance and beauty much more challenging to find. Engaging in tours like this with someone like Alessandro, who clearly loves his city, and has put a lot of thought into the whole experience to share with others around the world, is hands down the best way to get a deeper understanding of such a complex place. Alessandro puts himself out there by writing and signing songs in a language that is not his first and does it spectacularly and meaningfully. There is a lot of walking on this one so may not be for some, the city tour option may be better for those. If you are looking for a deeper glimpse into a city, culture and it's people though, Alessandro is an excellent option for a unique tour that will stay with you and keep you thinking of Genoa long after you return home.
