Colosseum

The Colosseum, originally known as the Flavian Amphitheater (in Latin: Amphitheatrum Flavium) or simply Amphitheatrum (in Italian: Anfiteatro) located in the center of the city of Rome, is the largest Roman amphitheater in the world (capable of containing a number of spectators estimated between 50,000 and 87,000). It is the most important Roman amphitheater, as well as the most impressive monument of ancient Rome that has come down to us. The amphitheater was built in the Flavian period on an area on the eastern edge of the Roman Forum. Its construction, begun by Vespasian in 70 AD, was completed by Titus, who inaugurated it on 21 April in 80 AD. Further changes were made during Domitian's empire, in 90. The name "Colosseum" spread only in the Middle Ages, and derives from the popular deformation of the Latin adjective "colosseum" (which can be translated into "colossal", as it appeared in the early Middle Ages among the one or two-storey houses)

The tour itself was good. It’s not as crowded in December and our tour guide was knowledgable. Concierges definitely left a lot to be desired 1. They don’t seem to care about time differences. A month before over the course of two weeks They text you at 4am and then when you don’t pick up right away call you two minutes later. There was definitely some choice words from me the third time they did this to which they thought was inappropriate but it’s also inappropriate to call at 4am in the morning! That’s when an email will suffice! 2. The meeting spot is not the meeting spot. There was a sign on the door that it’s a couple blocks down 3. When I get to the meeting spot, they ask for my voucher… I show them and they have no idea who “ROMA IN TOURS” and we were at the wrong place which set us on a huge panic, running to different people in the street asking if they were the right tour afraid we were going to be left behind. Finally I text Roma in tours and asked where they were cause I don’t see a sign and they tell me they are “vivicatours” huh? They should really provide that kind of info!! that was the original guides that said they didnt know who Roma in tours was. Our names were confirmed after that but seriously what a heartache!

Walking through the Colosseum was awe-inspiring, and having access to the Arena floor was a dream come true. Their knowledge and passion made this tour not just informative but also deeply engaging.

Very confusing in the beginning. Too many people in our group. The tour guide was very knowledgeable but would have loved to be able to ask questions.
