We went here to check out the church and the cloister. Was really nice to see all the artwork, tilework and history this place has had. The gardens were also really nice.

Got to Monreale and was told the Viator vouchers were unofficial and not part of the Cloister ticket. Had to buy tickets there which were a 1/5 of the price Biator charged me. I am waiting for a full refund. We shall see. Monreale Cathedral itself was spectacular. A shame this happened and was told by Monreale staff it's a continuing problem with Viator customers

Cloister garden and mosaics in cloister and church plus town of Montreale itself. Church is a little crowded mid morning

The total failure of Viator. The so called ticket was rejected and I had to pay again. You are useless

Incredible mixture of different styles and great example of abundance! Our children enjoyed ‘roof walk’ - it’s unique, don’t miss it! Dress code is strict, even for girls (my daughter is 11) - shoulders should be covered, shorts are not allowed. At the ticket office they offer solution for unprepared - for 1.5 eur you can buy disposable dess.

Such a beautiful cathedral. We went on a Sunday, so we could not enter until 2pm, otherwise it was worth the wait.

This Cathedral would not allow the tickets from this site. After an hour of them trying to work with the people at the Cathedral, including calling Viator, they DO NOT accept tickets bought from this site. Upon my return I will be seeking a FULL REFUND now if only they could give my family back an hour of our vacation.

We visited on a rare, wet day in May. The cathedral is absolutely stunning. I don't know if I have seen as beautiful as cathedral anywhere. Monreale is difficult to find so please do persevere!

No problems with queues.I have visited many cathedrals all over the world and this is in the top five.Linger and don't rush the visit. So much ambience and character.

Endured an uncomfortably overcrowded and seemingly interminable bus ride to Monreale after waiting an hour at Piazza Indipendenza Palermo.30 stops!!.More and more bodies squeezing on.Hardly anyone getting off!!.BUT ultimately it was worth it- both for the view looking back down the valley;and, of course for Monreale's wonderful cathedral. First, the cloisters and garden.Remnants the guidebooks say of a 12th century Benedictine monastery.228 marble pillars interwoven with multi-coloured inlaid mosaics.Beautiful Tranquil. From here you can if you wish climb the stairs for an apparently impressive birds-eye view of the cathedral and the surrounding hillside. We decided not. Nothing prepares you for the dazzling brilliance of the interior.Images from the old and new testaments adorn the pillars and walls.Guidebooks also highlight the Palatine Chapel and the cathedrals of Palermo and Cefalu as places you must visit. Having visited them all in my opinion I consider Monreale as the finest, and it is my personal favourite. Guidebooks describe it as one of the finest Norman churches ANYWHERE;and who am I to disagree.Built between 1174-82 it is an exquisite mix of Arabic, Byzantine and Norman craftmanship. Majestic. Afterwards,we wisely decided on a comfortable taxi back to Palermo.(Forget the bus) TIP: Check opening times. We spent 2 hours wandering the picturesque streets and having a leisurely lunch before the cathedral reopened at 3 .
