Villa Borghese

The best way for us to describe the Villa Borghese gardens is: As the keeper of the Villa Borghese Pinciana, I publicly declare: whoever you are, providing to be a freeman, fear no hindrance here; go where you like, ask what you wish; leave when you want. Everything you see was made more for the guest than for its landlord. In the golden century, when peaceful years made any thing splendid for the refined ones, the landlord forbade all iron rules for the guest. Let good faith be the only rule for our friend. But if someone, consciously and purposely, by wickedness and deceit, was to break the golden rules of courtesy, be alert, the angry keeper may break these friendly words on your head. (Latin inscription carved on marble plate at Villa Borghese).

It was my daughter's first trip to Rome and our first visit to this gallery. The beauty of each and every room was overwhelming! Goosebumps!! Would definitely recommend anyone going to Rome to visit!

Fadia_F

the booking was only for tickets, we didn't have a guide and we weren't aware that the gallery was under renovation, we were able only to see the first floor, however, the experience was very good, I came to know that the ticket fees were EUR 8 only and I was charges about EUR 30 each (it was frustrating)

The guide repeated herself throughout the tour, adding little interest overall to each individual piece. It's readily apparent that the execution of the sculpture is beautiful and dynamic, so dont just say that multiple times. What is special about each piece? What is its context in the art world? More background and context on the Borghese family would also be welcomed. She had names and dates but not a lot of interesting detail. The museum contains many interesting works, certainly! She centered on the Bernini and Caravaggio pieces, which deserve focus, but I felt I saw little else. In the first floor entrance hall, she barely mentioned the floor mosaics and didn't go into detail, such as the scenes they portrayed, and couldn't identify the busts in the hall, a very prominent feature of that room.... for 20 €, okay, but for 100 €, you should be able to answer that level of question if asked.

I bought a museum ticket in Rome and could not find it in the website, so I missed the appointment and lost my money. There was nothing but an endless cycle of ads. This has been an outrageously bad experience from start to finish, and I regard it as fraud. I will report it as such.

I was charged OVER DOUBLE through viator for the short visit ticket. Not worth it when you can just buy one there for the normal price. I won’t ever use Viator again in my travels, they suck every single time

This is a beautiful museum and is very highly regarded. The skip the line tickets allowed us to walk right in. I can’t imagine having to wait in line on a hot, crowded summer day.

This is a spectacular museum and our guide, Matteo, was superb. Worth ever penny and the time spent. Learned a lot about the artists and the works.

The guide was very good and the tour of the gallery was interesting and informative. However, they offered a two-hours tour (and it was very expansive) when in fact the tour was only one hour and 20 minutes. The gallery closed after one hour of visit and then we were guided to the gardens. But it was impossible to see anything in the darkness and the guide finished after approximately 20 minutes (apologizing that the lights were turned off). We were very happy for the option to see the gallery (there were no tickets on that day so that was our only option of entering) but we did feel a bit scammed for the short duration of the tour relative to the expansive price.

Very quick access to the beautiful museum. The museum was sold out for the day and we were able to book with Viator.

Margaret_P

This worked great! I picked up the tickets and went to the museum, perfect. As for the museum my only critiques is that they put some paintings too high, and the windows create a glare in some rooms.
