Great driver. Not a lot of stops to get off and see things, but a good way to see a lot of the city. Good info via the translated radio system with earbuds.

A nice way to see some of the city. Not as many stopping points as I thought. Booking online was more expensive than buying at location. Make sure to get the headphones as the audio on the bus speakers may or may not be in a language you understand.

DO NOT BOOK THIS COMPANY. We won’t be eating any pizza in heaven, because there will be no Italians there to make it. My family and I just had the most horrific experience with this hop on hop off tour company. We arrived at 12 o’clock and bought tickets for 8 of us. We bought tickets on the contingency that the bus was showing up to take us on a tour by 12:30. 12:50 is rolled around and we realize we no longer we’re going to be able to make it back to our boat after doing the tour and grabbing a quick bite to eat. Frustrated that the tour company had missed the timing pretty badly we simply requested a refund. They argued with us for another 10 minutes telling us the bus was here yet the bus was nowhere to be seen. This was a classic example of horrible customer service, and doing everything they can to continue to run the credit card machine without any accountability actually following through on their service. I hope all Italians aren’t like these people, but we are off to a terrible start. What a bad example of running a business and making a customers life absolute hell. After all eight of us got into the store and pressured them for another 10 minutes, they finally gave us our money back kicking in absolutely screaming. Yelling at us as we walked out the door. DO NOT BOOK THIS COMPANY.

THE WORST COMPANY, THE BUS NEVER CAME. the bus never came and they wanted to keep our money. They lie about the times and then scream at you for wanting your money back. So unprofessional. The guy selling the tickets on the side of the road will tell you whatever you want to hear then we stood waiting for the bus for 45 min. When it never came (as they said it would) we went and asked for our money back as we just wasted almost an hour on the side of the road wasting our small time in Catania. After talking with the company they lied multiple times, their story didn’t line up and were refusing to give us our money back. Finally after having to waste another 15 min they finally did but without a massive fight. This is the worst experience we’ve ever had with a hop on hop off.

We found the hop on/off bus the most economical way of getting from our hotel to Catania and to points north. The commentary was indeed very ropey, often out of phase with progress along the route. In our case the drivers were always polite and helpful.

Don't bother, the city centre is short walk from pier and apart from a castle on the cliffs above sea ,it takes you up to that and back to centre ,that's it ,we could have saved ourselves 30 Euro and walked to centre ourselves !

The bus ride gives a quick intro to Catania and its northern coastline with its black lava cliffs and rocks. The Itinerary wasn’t exactly as described by the operator above but did follow the route on brochures they gave. It passed some interesting places, and although a little too quickly to really see them, did give a ‘taste’ of what you may want to come back to and explore. The cost was very reasonable in terms of the area covered and that you could have your ticket effectively last you a whole day. The taped commentary covered little that we hadn’t already read about, and had too much music used as ‘filler’ which was disappointing. There was an opportunity for much more information instead to be given about Catania’s history, or ideas for things to do at the stop off points. Very little information was given about the historic center of Catania. We really only wanted the transport so that was not so bad but for others it would be more important. The 2 drivers on the busses we took had to contend with some challenging people, from those who were on the bus to other drivers doing crazy things! Although one driver was rather abrupt with one passenger, they showed extraordinary patience and flexibility with another. That said, both drivers didn’t follow key features of the service - 1. by waiting well after the stated departure times at stops, the timetable was thrown out, and left people having to wait for a late bus without any shade. 2. The drivers didn’t stop at each point noted, so when a passenger left their seat while the bus was moving to complain they wanted to get off asap, the passenger fell over and landed on us! The 2 busses we were on both need cleaning and repairs. For example, seats were grubby, seat belts didn’t work. This could’ve been a much better experience with some very easily made improvements, whereby many of the reviews would be better.

Even without hop on/hop off there were two stops where we had time to look and photograph. In one place in the central city the tree-branches hit the bus and one branch nearly hit the person in front of me, and me, at head height. Luckily the sound of the branch hitting the metal uprights of the roof made us duck/lean in.

A terrible experience - a mystery shopper could have written a novel about that. One bus driver told all passengers they had to leave the bus at Castello di aci. So everyone left the bus … he told us - the next one arrives in one hour. What should we do in the meantime? Go see the Castello … aka go shop at the local market. (Maybe they have a deal?) However, one hour later we (and all other passengers that had to leave the bus) waited at the bus stop - and there the real trouble started: - bus arrived 20 minutes too late - the passengers on this bus did not have to leave the bus … so obviously not enough space on the bus - standing is not aloud - so the driver told us, we need to leave and wait for the next bus - for another hour - we said that’s just not fair - the driver let us stay and complained for 10 minutes “I’ll loose my drivers licence”, “that’s why I don’t like that job” - ok, than why did you not simply tell us we have to leave and there’s no other possibility? - as we were not able to sit, we were not able to listen to the explanations - the shifting stick fell apart two times - just imagine that - driver was not shocked at all, so that seems to be normal - driver ignores red traffic lights … - we asked for a complaints paper … answer to that: write a Google review … obviously no money back as an option for that company. Believe us when we tell you, that riding a hop on, hop off tour, that was not our first rodeo. We seriously never experienced such a tour. Strongly recommend not taking that tour.
