Below the city of Rome are miles of tunnels built by ancient slaves to take the building material for the city. Then these galleries were also used by Christians for their burials and the Catacombs were born. We will then take you to know this secret world inside fantastic galleries illuminated by warm LED lights that allow you to glimpse the marks of the chisels produced by ancient fossores, Roman workers who quarried pozzolana, often in exchange for their own lives. So here you find yourself in an ancient past made of lights and shadows, where history is written in every wrinkle of the walls, in every sign and in every niche. We will enter the area of the catacombs where the first Christians buried their loved ones in tunnels for tens and tens of kilometers. We will then let you experience the faint light of the fossores, produced by the Roman lamps which for thousands of years have been the only means of moving.

Our guide Joseph was wonderful and very knowledgeable. We expected to be seeing the underground Roman tunnels through the city. We did not. We saw a rock quarry and an old mushroom farm. Air quality was poor, long walk to entrance, nothing super special.

Joseph took us back to a time and place that we had previously not known about. As an archeologist his knowledge was exceptional and he made it easy to imagine living and working in ancient times. The work he and his group are doing here is remarkable and should soon receive UNESCO status. Bravo to all involved in this project

We unfortunately could not do tour as our tour guide did not arrive. We requested a refund. It is a, pity as we were really looking forward to it.

Although the guide was informative and enthusiastic, the experience was less than satisfactory. It all looks the same and you have to walk 45 minutes to get to the underground.

We had to walk 45 minutes to get to the underground part. The tour in it was just okay. It got a little monotonous because everything looks the same. The paintings are modern since they were never there in the fist place.

This was a very interesting tour, definitely not a typical Rome tour. Our guide, Riccardo was terrific, extremely knowledgeable and we learned a lot. It was really hot in Rome that day, so was nice to go underground, where we did get chilly and ended up putting a jacket on about half way through the tour. It is a long walk to get to the entrance, so recommend taking a taxi or Metro ride to meet the guide and not doing a ton of walking ahead of time.

The Labyrinth tour was amazing. The tour guide Daniela was absolutely fun, acknowledgeable and made it exciting. I would definitely recommend this tour to everyone.

After a walk through an unexpectedly large park we came to the cave entrance. It was much colder and very damp inside so bring a jumper. Our very knowledgeable guide showed us how the ancient Roman slaves had dug out the cave. Where they had dug little seats, inspection wells. We saw the results of collapsing walls and ceilings. We turned off our torches and stood in the pitch black dark while he told us about Roman burial traditions. We then explored using little oil lamps like the Roman’s would have used. Ended up with some ‘mousa’ wine with honey and spices that the Roman nobility would have drunk. And saw an example of a Mithraem. It was a fascinating tour. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

This was an amazing experience shared with varied generations of our family some of whom we do not see often anymore. Surprisingly the extensive history associated with the site changed drastically over time and our tour guide, Maurizio, who spoke Spanish, English, and Italian throughly conveyed the historical data in creative detail. I would recommend this tour as a must experience while in Rome. A short distance away from the usual tourist attractions by metro.
