We arrived 25 minutes early to meet our guide in the crowded Piazza del Duomo. This vague meeting point without any further specifics was bound to make the rendez-vous challenging. Messages from tour operator indicated the guide would be wearing a specific colored tee shirt with the company logo to distinguish them from thousands of other people in square. Eventually had to call the tour company directly for more information. Was patched through to our guide who said she had a green umbrella. Finally found her holding a closed umbrella and a pale pink dress and denim jacket at the side of the piazza-not a central location. No tour company tee shirt for easy identification and closed umbrella. She offered no apology but was rude and defensive. She spoke very softly so our party of four heard very little and indicated the tour company would not provide radios for a small tour group. Just as well as some of the facts she provided were incorrect, eg Dante and Michelangelo were acquaintances. This would be an impossibility since they were born centuries apart. I know English is her second language but when questioned, she was insulted. In all this was a true disappointment. My children are studying Italian in college and one will be taking a course on Dante this semester. They learned nothing meaningful about the poet, his work, or Florence. I really wanted to request a refund but instead will simply advise others to avoid this terrible waste of time.
