Your Itinerary

Colosseum

Feel the glory and majesty of Rome at the height of its power as you walk on the very same stones as those who came to fight here in gladiatorial combat, treading in their footsteps out onto a partial reconstruction of the arena floor, looking up at the tiered ruins that were once filled with some 50,000-80,000 bloodthirsty spectators. You are sure to hear their echoes as your eyes are drawn upward, your body turns and your mind is boggled by the elegance and engineering prowess of what was once the largest structure of its kind in the world, all from this unique 360° view, as a local expert guide reminds you of its dramatic purpose in a narrative that goes beyond anything Hollywood could dream up. Home to the gladiatorial games, exotic staged hunts, theatrical executions and even mock sea-battles, this 1.5-hour Colosseum tour explores the Arena Floor with its awe-inspiring perspective, up-close views of the underground area where the spectacle was brought to life, and the panorama from where the Emperor’s box once stood, all special access areas that standard ticket holders don’t get to see. In addition, you will follow your guide up to the second level to see what the crowds saw, tracing the Colosseum’s circumference in an effort to understand what it must have been like when the stands were packed, the crowds were roaring and a gladiator’s destiny hung on their whims. No other itinerary allows you to see the Colosseum from the two most impressive above and below viewpoints in such a compact time frame.

Francesca our guide maybe small in stature (her words) but her level of knowledge was the size of the Colosseum. A very entertaining tour with lots of information and regular photo stops, with Francesca in the role of photographer. The tour of The forum and the original Caesars Palace was enlightening. From a practical point finding the start of the tour was so easy and well organised.

Small group size was perfect. Worth the extra money. Great guid who spoke very well and answered all the many questions we had.

If you can only do 1 tour in Rome...make it this one. Valentina, our guide, was an expert on Roman history and such an engaging, fun person to tour with. She made the experience very special. She took us to the best places in the Colosseum to take pictures, appreciate the history, and understand how the Colosseum came to be. After, we saw amazing views to take in the entire city. So beautiful. One of the best parts is, with this tour, you don't spend time waiting in lines! I've done two different tours of the Colosseum and this is definitely the best one. Definitely book it.

Sylvia was an amazing guide with such positive energy. She was an archaeologist with a love for the incredible technology of the romans, and helped bring the story of the colosseum and forum alive. It was a wonderful few hours.

Our tour guide was not at the meeting point we were given and we had no way to contact him so we missed the entire tour. Now Viator is stating that they will not refund our nearly $400!! We WILL get our money back one way or another! I would not trust this company or their unreliable guides! We had another tour booked for today with a different tour operator and they called an hour prior to the tour to cancel stating they did not have a guide available! This is the worst experience I have ever had & this company is refusing to take responsibility for any of this mess! My 76 year old aunt is with us & this may very well be her last chance to experience Rome. Thanks for nothing Viator!!

Sub-par unfortunately. I'd booked this tour based on a previous positive experience with City Wonders but was left feeling underwhelmed about a visit to a site I've been dying to see since I was a kid. 1. I booked a "semi-private" tour. The name in itself is a BS way of getting you to pay more-it basically just caps the groups at 14. But that's fine, I understand. On arrival, we were told a guide was sick and we were being combined with another group, so about 25-30 people now. To their credit they said they're giving us a partial refund. I don't know if they have processed it yet. 2. Ignore all the nonsense about the special Reserved entrance, and VIP experiences and whatnot. Tons of other groups are all going through the same entryways as you. It's still packed everywhere you go. The arena floor is the only place with a little space but it's by no means quiet. 3. Our guide...she was lovely and obviously knew her stuff, but between the signal loss, her accent, and the surrounding noise, I probably missed about 50% of the info. It was presented in a monotonous manner, and she'd take off mid-speech, leaving us to fight through the crowds. By the time you catch up, you're moving on. I'd have killed for a moment to stand and take in the place. But it's rushed, uninspired, and there was virtually no opportunities to ask questions. By the time we were in the forum, she was basically just pointing at things across the site and mumbling a rapid fire selection of Roman names. Can't explain how excited I was to explore the site. Left feeling a bit sad. City Wonders appears to be another victim of modern tourism. Surface level low quality experiences, with shiny verbiage on the advertisement. I'd recommend splashing on a well reviewed private guide so you can take your time and get a more in depth experience.

What an incredible day!!! Our tour guide, Elena, was such a wealth of information. She explained every detail so beautifully, we were captivated the entire 3 hours!

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I showed up to the meeting place at the correct time and the tour operator informed me my tour had been cancelled, and I MIGHT get a partial refund. I went all the way there for nothing. As today is my last day in Rome, I was not able to reschedule. A heads up would have been appreciated.

This company is dishonest. They intentionally mislabeled what the tour included to get customers to pay extra and then after claimed that it was never included. Viator also did nothing to resolve the issue. Don't waste your money.

The guide was incredible and the special access made the tour more than worth it. He really took care of us to ensure everyone had adequate water and bathroom breaks, as well as chances to see everything and take photos. He helped bring the places to life with his knowledge. It’s a history lover’s dream.
