The Palatine hill was chosen by Romulus as it was deemed to be the best of all the 7 hills of Rome thanks to its ideal and central position. The Romans, as other ancient civilizations, tended to choose the high grounds close to rivers for their early settlements. This gave a strategic advantage in case of military attack as well as against the frequent floods of the water streams. Walk on the hill where the history of Rome started from. Our guide Andrada took us into a deep dive into the immense history of such a important part of European history before and after the Roman Empire. Andrada gave us a remarkable insight into why, what and how the Coliseum- Amphithéâtre and Roman forum became and will forever be a legend for humankind. And she was knowledgeable and passionate in all the related topics and questions we asked. Very recommended.

Susanna was an excellent guide who understood the history of the Forum and the Colosseum well. However, my reason for a 4-star rating is that there were a few communication challenges when we asked questions and got answers that were not relevant to the question we had asked, leading us to wonder whether our guide really understood us. Other than that, she was flexible when we wanted to shorten the tour due to the 93+ degree heat (even at 10am!) and was pleasant to walk with. Note: she strongly prefers that you use the whisper mic/headset system instead of talking directly to you -- she does a lot of talking while walking so the headsets were an absolute necessity on this tour, even though it was a private experience.

We had a truly fantastic time with our guide Alessandra -time flew for three hours as she gave us a superbly exciting tour of the Colosseum, the Forum and the Palatine Hill. We thoroughly enjoyed the very detailed picture that Alessandra gave us of Roman history, and where all the sites/monuments would fit in -all of this supported by spot-on anecdotes and a full binder of pictures/drawings to help tell the tale ! We were so fortunate to see all the good spots including the arena and underground of the Colosseum on this comprehensive tour so full of surprises SPOILER - the very special lasagna recipe of Alessandra's mum being a really touching one. We can only highly recommend this wonderful experience and would love to spend another 3 hours on a tour with Alessandra in the future.
