Amazing bike ride from Rome to Gandolfo. Emanuel was an amazing tour guide who was full of knowledge !

Amazing one of a kind experience! Via Appia Antica, riding through beautiful Marino and by Lake Albano, to the top of Castel Gandolfo, back down and through the Park of Aqueducts. Our guide, Emanuele, was knowledgeable, adventurous, and made it a perfect day!

I booked this tour because I wanted to bike to Castel Gandolfo but didn’t feel confident enough to do it myself. Emanuele (not sure if spelling right) knew the way well and stopped to point out interesting things we would have missed. My husband thought path was easy but if you’re not so great on a bike (like me) the beginning of the appian way can be challenging (where it’s very very bumpy). The restaurant we ate at in Castel Gondolfo was amazing and has a series of tunnels/chambers underground you can eat in. The countryside is amazing. This was our favorite thing we did in Rome. Only area for improvement - the ebikes themselves aren’t in great shape.

Wow what a trip. The e-bikes weren’t what I expected though. They only assist and it is quite a workout. But happy we did it

It was a fun and adventurous day outside the stifling crowds of central Rome, but packed with history and anecdotes… everyone was relaxed and extremely friendly…we reached CastelGandolfo and had lunch in a very quirky restaurant with a labyrinth of cellars and interesting memorabilia.. my highlight of the day was riding through the area of the aqueducts.. Emanuel had a deep and passionate knowledge of the area, but most of all he was super friendly and helpful… thanks for one of the most memorable days in Rome.

We did the 8 hour bike tour from Appia Antica up to Castel Gandolfo and Lake Albano, which is one of the longest tours they offer. It was absolutely worth it, and an amazing day. Our guide Emanuele went above and beyond to make the experience special and smooth. It can definitely be a workout, but with the electric assist bikes, you can also make it much easier, so you choose how much you sweat (we went on a sunny day in early July, there was plenty of sweat). Even with the electrical assist, it requires some biking skills and physical ability, but it’s absolutely worth it!. What really made the trip special was Emanuele's guidance. At his suggestion, instead of waiting in line to get food at the overcrowded restaurants at the lake, we got a great local porcetta sandwich beforehand and brought it up to the lake with us. Since we didn't have to wait for food, in the ~hour we had at the lake, instead of waiting for service, instead we were able to rent a paddle boat (with Emanuele's help to expedite) and eat our sandwiches in the middle of the beautiful azure blue volcanic lake! An amazing experience. I also jumped in because the water is so clear and perfect. Since we made good time on the way up to Castel Gandolfo, on the way back we also went through the Aqueduct Park. It's even more beautiful than the Appia Antica! I'm so grateful to Emanuele for the experience, and I'm also grateful to Rome and to Italy for doing such a great job preserving their nature and their history. One thing to note is that our tour was on a Sunday and I think that helped reduce the number of cars we encountered.

This is a great day out. We did the Appian Way cycle to Castelgandolfo Lake with Emanuele as our guide. The Appian Way is incredibly picturesque. There is some rough terrain, but the ebikes provided are really good, with fat tyres to handle it. When we reached Castelgandolfo they had organised a table for us at a local restaurant with the most incredible views out over the volcanic lake. We decided to cycle back as well which gave us the opportunity to visit the aqueduct park on the way back which is definitely worth it if you’re interested in ancient Rome - it’s almost unbelievable that they are so grand and still standing. Emmanuele our guide was friendly, knowledgable and a very good ride-leader with clear signalling and good safety awareness. I wasn’t sure what the water situation would be like but there are multiple drinking fountains along the way where you can refill your bottle. I think this ride is best suited to confident cyclists - we loved it and it really made our weekend.

View from Gondolfo, great ride along the Appian way, nothing to much trouble for the guys and they are flexible enough to change parts of it depending on what you want to do

I ride to castle Gandolfo by bicycle with Alessio. We ride via Apia Antica... I can say it was a fantastic experience. Appia antica is an open air museum and Alessio gave me a lovely tour of ruins and tombs. I also rented the bike from Alessio himself. I highly recommend this tour, and suggest to not miss the opportunity while in Rome, it would be a great memory. I myself might repeat the tour in April again.

There probably isn’t a better way to tour the Appian way. Our tour guide Alessio was great! Very friendly, helpful, funny and knowledgeable. We learned so much about the history of the famed road. The excursion included a jaunt to picturesque Castelgandolfo. We had never heard of this lake and it was a amazing! Wow! What a beautiful place! There was the option to take a swim in the lake, which half of our party indulged in. The water was clear and not too cold. We sat and enjoyed the views, which included the Pope’s summer residence. We continued the trek up to a quintessential Italian village where we had what can only be described as “the best meal ever” at Arte e Vino. The courses just kept coming, one more delicious than the last. The group shared a bottle of divine wine as well. Side note: the restaurant was incredibly cute and quirky- would return. Finally we caught the train back to Roma Termini station and rode back to the original meeting point. As we said our goodbyes we felt like we were leaving a friend. I have to agree with another reviewer- this is not super easy for beginners, but is doable.
