Your Itinerary

Via Etnea

During "The Godfather" tour, you will walk along the authentic picturesque streets of Savoca and Forza d'Agro remained unchanged since the movie was made, visit ancient churches, famous Bar Vitelli where Michael Corleone asked Apollonia's father her hand in marriage, church where they married, and other movie locations. Optionally, you may taste perfect Sicilian wines and locally produced food sitting on a terrace with a panoramic view of the Ionian coast and surrounding countryside at one of the best wine bars in Savoca, and have traditional fish dinner at a fine fish restaurant in Forza d'Agro. First stop is Savoca, an unspoilt medieval town that near Taormina that acted as stand-in for Corleone where Michael was hiding out during the "going to the mattresses" time. Here you will visit Bar Vitelli that looks exactly the way it did in the movie, and see the exact spot where Al Pacino informed Apollonia's father that his name was Michael Corleone, and that "there are people who'd pay a lot of money for that information, but then your daughter would lose a father instead of gaining a husband". Here you can take pictures with an authentic Sicilian shotgun "Lupara", see pictures from the movie and a mirror monument for Coppola, enjoy panoramic view of the Mediterranean opening from the square where the wedding ceremony scene was shot, purchase The Godfather souvenirs, and - "leave the gun, take the cannoli" - taste original Sicilian cannoli and lemon granita at Bar Vitelli. Then you will walk to an ancient church of Santa Lucia, where Michael and Apollonia were married kneeling in the doorway. Then follow the same path down the hill that the newlyweds did, and visit another old church dating back to the 13th century. Walking along the fabulous streets of Savoca, on a good day you can also meet some actors - for example a lady who played Apollonia's mother and who still lives in Savoca. Later, optionally you can visit Enoteca near Santa Lucia church, and on a terrace with romantic sea view taste Sicilian red and white wines paired with traditional food (locally produced cheeses, salami, prosciutto, caponata, home-made jelly, olives, extra virgin olive oil and fresh home-made bread). The tour will continue in Forza d'Agro, another stunning hilltop town with a "Godfather" connection. You will walk the abandoned streets ("Where have all men gone?" - "They're dead from vendettas"), explore the historic square and see the pictures from the movie, visit ancient churches, see the piazza where young Vito Andolini (later Vito Corleone) escaped Don Ciccio's men by hiding in a basket on a donkey's back, walk up to see the remains of a 12th century Norman castle, admire delightful panoramic view of the Ionian coastline, and get a flavor of the Sicilian pastoral lifestyle remained unchanged since ancient times. Then, you can optionally have lunch or dinner at one of the best fish restaurants in Sicily and taste many kinds of traditional fish dishes with Sicilian red and white wines.

The entire tour was our “best” experience! The guide, Maurizio, has to be one, if not your best. The history and knowledge of his beautiful country & culture makes you love it as much as he does. The tour definitely exceeded our expectations! Would highly recommend.

We spent a great day touring Savoca and environs with Fabio, who was absolutely fab! Great knowledge, personality and communication skills - he's from the area and knows people and places that other guides likely don't, and has an encyclopedic knowledge of The Godfather. Saw some extra interesting places on the way to and from, such the Abbazia dei Santi Pietro e Paolo d'Agro' church and Taormina. Toured from mid-morning through most of the afternoon, had the lunch and wine option, which was tasty, generous, and served at a local sport with super friendly proprietors. We went in late May and it was a bit hot already - since plenty of walking is involved, we recommend booking late afternoon and early evening during the warm weather months - trust us.

Our energetic Guide Ignazio immediately met us as we disembarked the ship. He quickly guided us to a luxury Mercedes Benz van and off we went on our Godfather tour! Ignazio definitely went the 'extra mile' not only sharing his local knowledge of the Godfather movie, but also treated us to his knowledge of local nut and berry trees. While following the steps of the Godfather tour he expertly guided us to a local family-owned shop featuring local olive oil and wine. YUM! Lunch at Sikania-a locally owned and operated restaurant not only featured flavorful seasonal samplings of the regional cuisine, but the highlight was the semi-private open-air dining balcony with spectacular sweeping views of the hills and ocean below. A definite highlight of the day. The family preparing the meal were warm and welcoming and a mutual understanding of appreciation was communicated without the need to know each other's language. Off again with Ignazio, as he expertly guided us to unique landmarks, both planned and unplanned. His warm character, in-depth knowledge and genuine caring made this tour a definite highlight of our entire Mediterranean cruise! The charming Nadia, who coordinated the tour, was gracious and timely with communication. You could not choose a better tour operator to treat yourself and your travel party than booking with Prestelli Tours!

Our tour with Marco was outstanding! He picked us up at our hotel on time, was very knowledgeable about the details of The Godfather movies, and made it a very enjoyable tour. At the end we asked him to drop us off in Taormina and he was very accommodating. We were very pleased with Marco and his courteous demeanor. I recommend Marco and his company.

This tour was wonderful. Our tour guide Marco was very knowledgeable about the filming of The Godfather and gave us a lot of interesting background on the area where the filming took place. He picked us up at our hotel in Taormina and took us on a very scenic drive to Savoca and Forza d`Agro. On this tour we were able to see small surrounding towns and enjoyed every minute. it was well worth the time and money, I would highly recommend this tour.

Savoca and Forza d'Argo are very memorable villages with a lot of special spots from the Godfather films. A must-do for Godfather fans.

Best tour in Sicily! The tour was very rewarding and our guide Our guide Omar Giuseppe made it even better! We were picked up close to our hotel in Taormina, as promised, and had a very educational and informative day. The God Father tour allowed us to see surrounding areas and towns of Taormina that we would not have seen. You will see where some of the best movie scenes were filmed in Sicily. It is worth the time and money. This was the best part of our tip to Taormina and I highly recommend that you take the tour.

November in Sicily, intermittently cloudy and the fog rolls in in the afternoons on some days! Marco our guide made such a day shine! We loved the movie, but that is besides the point. This tour shows a side of Sicily we would have missed if we hadn’t done it. The views, the location of the villages, the back story for the location and the history of the people, it was all wonderful. Marco loves his job and it shows in all the things he does for his clients. Highly recommend this tour and Marco!
