Spanish Steps

A picture with the Spanish Steps in the background is a must do in Rome! This modern monument was arranged three centuries ago in order to find an architectural connection between the Fountain of the Barcaccia on the street level, by Pietro Bernini, and the Renaissance church standing on the top of the slope. The Spanish Steps are unique for their unusual plan and shape designed by Alessandro Specchi and Francesco De Sanctis. Traditional icon of the Italian Dolce Vita, the Spanish Steps cannot be missed during a visit to the Eternal city.

Piazza del Popolo

Piazza del Popolo is one the most famous squares of Rome and it is clear to see why. The square is surrounded by 3 of the most beautiful churches of Rome, a large Egyptian obelisk surrounded by fountains and accessway to one of the picturesque viewpoints in Rome. You will also notice the imposing door of Rome, decorated by none other than Bernini.

Trevi Fountain

The backdrop to many classic films such as "Roman Holiday" and "La Dolce Vita" the fountain is the biggest of its kind in Rome. Work on the fountain started in 1732 after the Popes competition during the Baroque era to build something as beautiful as the Spanish Steps. The creator of the world famous fountain actually didn't win the contest but due to the outcry in Rome over a Florentine having won, Nicola Salvi was given the go ahead!

Pantheon

The Pantheon, a former Roman temple, is located within central Rome, within walking distance to other well known sites as Navona Square and the Trevi Fountain. Now a functional church, it is the burial place for many Resniense masters such as Raphael as well as 2 kings of Italy. The monument is very unique with a circular, Oculus roof allowing sunlight and even rain into the beautiful church. The original building was constructed almost 2000 years ago and Michelangelo was noted as saying that the design is of Angels and cannot be of human concept.

Campo de' Fiori

The area of the famous flower market derives its name from being once a field of flowers, paved in 1456 under Pope Callistus III. Public executions took place in this square, which is nowadays commemorated by the impressive statue of Giordano Bruno, the Italian philosopher burnt at the stake in 1600 for heresy. The place is today very lively both during the day and by night.

Piazza Farnese

Piazza Farnese has been embellished with the great Farnese palace since Renaissance times. Michelangelo was one of the architects who joined the project. If you come here you can understand how long is the history of Rome: a typical square of the city centre, next to Campo de Fiori where the local and traditional market could be found, that is embellished with a Renaissance palace and two enormous Roman fountains, originally located in the Caracalla’s Baths. Amazing.

Trastevere

A quant area of Rome that has seen vast changes over the centuries. This area was home to the original Jewish Synagogue of Rome and also the oldest church of the Eternal City. During 753–509 BC it was home to "Hostile Etruscans" and once overtaken, the area was largely used by local fishermen as they took advantage of the close by Tiber river. This part of Rome was even chosen by Julius Caesar as the location for his luxury Garden Villa!

Piazza del Campidoglio

One of the most famous squares of Rome is Piazza del Campidoglio, situated in front of the Palazzo Senatorio, the city hall of Rome! The square, originally designed by Michelangelo, is embellished with the copy of the only Roman bronze equestrian statue which survived from the ancient Roman time. Walking here means to get in touch with the old origins of the Eternal City!
