Gola di Gorropu

We leave from Orosei before to start driving off-road to descend in the valley where the path begins. We start the hike wading the Flumineddu river to enter in the woodland formed by Olm oaks and Mediterranean scrub. Walking along the cliffs of Mount Oddeu we get the entrance of the Gorroppu canyon in less than 2 hours. You will be astonished walking by the rocky walls which rise for more than 400 meters over the river bed, the Gorrupu canyon is one of the deepest canyons in Europe!!! During the trekking you will discover the unique microclimate of the canyon that allowed the giant growth of some trees like the Phyllirea and the old Yew tree; there is besides an endemic grass, the Acquilegia di Gorropu, present in very few individuals inside the canyon. When the path becomes more rough the hike become harder, sometimes you have to use the hands to proceed through the boulders then, when it is no longer possible to go further, we get back on our steps.

Had the pleasure of trekking to Gorropu with my wife whilst in Sardinia. We felt reassured straight away as, once we had booked Sergio contacted us to firm up the finer details of the trip. He gave us clear details of what to bring and where to meet, nothing was left to chance. On the day, Sergio arrived at the meeting point slightly early, as we had also. The pace of the walk was well suited to those on the trek, so nobody felt rushed or left behind. There was plenty of opportunities to take photos, have a drink or rest as required. Sergio was very informative, telling us lots about the plants and wildlife. Would highly recommend this trip. Very good value for money.

We went on the tour with high expectations and left with an even better experience than imagined. Our guide had lots of knowledge and was very good at informing us in English! The views were amazing in the canyon and I would 12/10 recommend!!

An unforgettable experience with potential to lose your heart on this wonderful tour. I booked the Gorropu Canyon tour for 6/9/23. We were two Swiss women and a couple from England. The contact by the company owner of Jebel Sardinia (his name is Sergio) was very organized, professional and reliable. Sergio is a natural scientist who has deep knowledge of the Sardinian flora, fauna and mountains. his attention to visitors was genuine and loving. He dedicated time to each individual participant and showed his appreciation for our group - he even shared his lunch with us - so we were able to experience some warm Sardinian culture right away. I highly recommend this tour to the readers of this review - if I could give 100 points I would give it 150 plus a gold medal.

Some reviews are easier to write than others. Sergio as knowledgeable guide with positive, smiling and helpful attitude (all the time) is the best foundation for any trip. He responds quickly, helps in any way and has the visitor as first priority all the time. The walk to the canyon from the parking can seem long, but with Sergio’s many stops to speak to us about the nature, culture, geology and history made this into an important part of the trek. The canyon itself is impressive and majestic!

Great trip and Sergio was a fantastic guide who was very informative as we went along. We enjoyed this trip so much we booked with him the next day to go to Tiscali which was just as good a trek if not better. Don’t wear flip flops or sandals though but trainers with grip are fine if you don’t have hiking foot ware.

Sergio is a friendly and very knowledgeable and well travelled guide. He turned a beautiful walk into a learning experience. His knowledge of the plants and trees is commendable. Our group was small (8 persons) which made the trek all the more interesting and interactive. Highly recommended.

My family and I had such a wonderful time hiking Gorropu canyon with Sergio. I wasn't sure how my 6 and 9 year old would do on a long hike, but they hardly noticed the distance because Sergio made it so fun. He set a perfect pace, told us all about the wildlife and plants in the region. The canyon is stunning, but Sergio made it an unforgettable experience for our whole family.

I had a great time in the Gorropu trekking with Sergio. He is a very attentive guide, who takes the time to explain both the history of Sardinia and the nature in the path. He also makes sure everyone in the group feel welcomed and has its pace respected. I was traveling by myself and felt super included in the group. I would certainly do another hike with Jebel Sardinia when back to Italy.

Nous étions ravis de notre journée avec lui, et le recommandons vivement. Sergio is the perfect guide to discover Su Gorropu -- and surely other trekking destinations in Sardinia. He is competent and knowledgeable without begin pedantic. He is sensitive to the various needs of a small group, setting just the right pace and taking breaks to rehydrate and to rest weary feet and limbs as needed. We had a wonderful trek and cannot recommend him highly enough.

We did 3 different hikes with Sergio: Gola Su Gorropu, Monte Tiscali and Cala Luna, and we wish to have done many more :) Sergio is a great guide: punctual, knowledgeable and very friendly! He manages to create a very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere even during more challenging hikes. He gave us a lot of information about Sardinia's history and botanics, telling about them with a great passion, and also advised us on other places to go in Sardinia. He also gave relevant (practical) information about the tours well in advance. Next time in Sardinia we will definately go for a multi-day hike with him!
