We stayed at Fattoria Lavaccio, they are very welcoming , overall great service. The food served at the restaurant exceeded our expectations, from aperitivo to dessert. Very calm atmosphere and a dream view from our room which was quite clean. The olive oil tasting was also a perfect way to hike around and to visit Leonardo’s da Vinci design windmill. We loved it , specially our toddler since he has the chance to be with the horses and play in the fields while we experienced the tasting tour. We’re looking forward to go back.

We booked and paid for this tour well in advance. We were staying in Florence without a car. It is not clear that this tour is 45 mins away from Florence. The reference to the pick up place to the train station is misleading. It is not the Florence train station but one quite a distance away. They operator offered to pick us up in Florence for 90 Euro each! We only paid 25ish euro for the tour. Needless to say we did not attend this tour. Only consider booking if you have a car. Transportation from Florence is not worth the cost.

My boyfriend and I had such an amazing time!!! The one thing my boyfriend requested for our trip to Italy was to go olive oil tasting. It is a little out of the way coming from Florence because you have to take a train to Pontassieve then pay for a cab but it is SO WORTH IT! We learned so much about olives and the history of the windmill. Our tour guide Tatsu also took the time to talk about the wine they grow on the property. The personal touch and attention to detail showed how much he loved working there! Their olive oil was amazing and we ended up getting a sample of wine too! We ended up buying olive oil and getting lunch at their little deli. The spread they put together was incredible! I had the best charcuterie plate and my boyfriend had a grains salad! It was a beautiful, relaxing day! We will for sure return to Pontassieve.

Our friendly and knowledgeable host shared interesting information about the region and farming methods as well as the windmill created to Leonardo Da Vinci design. Very hands on knowledge made it that much more interesting. Then we have a fantastic olive oil tasting session as well as their organic Chianti wine. We left their lovely shop with a variety of salamis, cheese, breads and of course wine. A very worthy little excursion for a great price in a lovely part of the country.
