Your Itinerary

Reggia di Caserta

The Royal Palace of Caserta is a royal palace, with a park attached, located in Caserta. The structure is imposing and majestic: 45,000 m2, 1200 rooms and 1790 windows. It is the largest royal residence in the world by volume and the historical owners were the Bourbons of Naples, in addition to a brief period in which it was inhabited by the Murat. In 1997 it was declared by UNESCO, together with the Vanvitelli aqueduct and the San Leucio complex, a world heritage site, it was decided to inaugurate a palace that could rival in magnificence and grandeur with that of Versailles. For security reasons (see British naval expedition against Naples of 1742), the chosen location was Casertavecchia about 20 km north of the capital.

Admission Included

Complesso Monumentale Belvedere San Leucio

The Complex was born from King Ferdinand's dream of creating an autonomous community. It is divided into 3 sections closely linked to each other, because they were born together in the second half of the 18th century: Industrial archeology (the ancient silk factory); Historic Apartment; Royal Gardens. Finally, it is enriched by the Weaver's House, an example of a workers' house from the end of the 19th century. The visit itinerary, enriched by multimedia devices that help understand the enormous work behind each silk product, is spread over two floors and winds through the nine hand looms that produce brocades, lampas, damasks and the famous “Leucian blanket”; the two enormous twisting machines and the water wheel that gives them movement; and then the so-called "Bagno di Maria Carolina", a real indoor swimming pool, the work of the first court painter P.Hackert, and then the rooms painted by F.Fischetti, G.Cammarano; finally the panoramic terraces of the Royal Gardens.
