Herculaneum was buried by volcanic ash spewed by Mt Vesuvius during its eruption during the Roman Empire. The city is buried under 16 meters (52 feet) of ash. Herculaneum is not as well-known as nearby Pompeii, but it is worth exploring the site that is revealed by archaeologists. Herculaneum was popular in ancient times for its location by the coast and its mild and sunny weather. It's not far from Naples; Mt Vesuvius is full of foreboding. This site in southwestern Italy is a favorite destination for visitors.

We took a private tour with the Askos tour company. Daniela was very interesting and knowledgeable. I highly recommend the company and Daniela. Heraculaneum is an amazing site.

Definitely a great tour and the only way to learn about ancient site. Our tour guide Daniela was fantastic and so knowledgeable!!!! I have done these tours before and without the guide we were just looking at ruins. But with guide we did so much more. The private tour allowed us to learn so much about ancient life as well as the structures, purposes and what they looked like. Worth the extra cost. Herculaneum is smaller but better preserved than Pompeii.

Luciano was a great guide for our family visit to Herculaneum. He was great at bringing things alive for our two boys aged 8 and 12 and was hugely knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

Amazing guide. Passionate about what he tells, a true story teller. We at E&E Expeditions have been using Luciano for a number of years as he's the best.

A private tour with Lorenzo turns a visit to Herculaneum into a more meaningful and memorable experience. He adds history from his own research, pictures from a binder that he brings to add to your understanding, and he highlights points of interest with information that is not provided on the printout you are given. He lead us around, so we could look around (instead of at a map) and be sure not to miss anything. He was an excellent teacher! Because he was fun and full of information! I highly recommend him Money well spent.

Wonderful experience, Luciano was very passionate and informative with our tour. We left with a very good insight of Herculaneum. Would highly recommend.

Our guide Luciano is wonderful. He has immense knowledge about the ancient city and the people that once lived there. We all thoroughly enjoyed his stories and information that brought the former Roman culture back to life. We enjoyed Luciano so much that we brought a new group of family members back and did the tour with him again and the other members of the family. The second time around, we even learned new stuff. Great tour and not to be missed.

Daniela was a brilliant guide; with her expert help we saw things we might have missed entirely and her enthusiasm for her subject was inspirational. I had long wanted to visit Herculaneum, and doing so with Daniela made it a very special experience.
