Marzamemi

In 1912 a salted tuna processing plant was built in Marzamemi and later for tuna in oil. Tuna fishing was abundant until the postwar period. In Marzamemi there were two slaughterings every day: one in the morning and one in the early afternoon. The camperia was the canning plant leaning against the loggia and the Prince's palace, the ruins of which, delimited by the Via Jonica, the Via Marzamemi and the Via Letizia, are recognizable by the high quadrilateral funnel (now at risk of collapse). Originally there were two funnels, but the most majestic collapsed on 12 June 1943, a few days before the Allied landing, when the trap was machine-gunned, with dead and wounded, by the English air force. [3] In the last period, the plant operated on behalf of Angelo Parodi's fish conservation industry from Genoa. The workers were Genoese specialists (as for the other traps in the area).
