Getting There

  • Car

    From Khor Virap, start by heading northeast on the M1 highway. After approximately 14 kilometers, you will reach the turnoff for the A1 road. Turn left onto A1 and continue driving for about 15 kilometers. You will see signs for Mount Aragats as you approach the mountain area. Follow the signs, and you'll eventually arrive at the base of Mount Aragats. Be aware that there may be a small parking fee at designated areas.

  • Public Transportation

    From Khor Virap, take a minibus (marshrutka) to Yerevan. The marshrutkas depart regularly from the main road. The fare is usually around 500 AMD. Once in Yerevan, make your way to the bus station and take a minibus heading towards Ashtarak. The fare for this leg is also around 500 AMD. Ask the driver to drop you off at the turn for Mount Aragats, which is about 25 kilometers from Ashtarak. From there, you may need to walk or hitchhike to get closer to the mountain, as public transport does not go directly to the base.

  • Taxi

    For a more comfortable journey, you can hire a taxi from Khor Virap directly to Mount Aragats. Negotiate the fare beforehand; it should cost around 5,000 to 10,000 AMD depending on your negotiation skills and the taxi service. The drive takes approximately 40 minutes. The taxi can drop you off at a suitable location near the mountain for your exploration.
