Getting There

  • Car

    From San José, take Route 1 (Interamericana) northwest towards Puntarenas. After approximately 90 km, exit onto Route 606 towards Monteverde. Continue on Route 606 for about 35 km until you reach Monteverde. Once in Monteverde, follow signs for 'Catarata Los Murciélagos' or 'Monteverde Waterfall'. The waterfall is located at 620 Monteverde Road. There is a small parking area available near the entrance.

  • Public Transportation

    From San José, take a bus from the Terminal 7-10 to Monteverde. Buses run several times a day and the journey takes approximately 4-5 hours. Once you arrive in Monteverde, you can either take a taxi or a local shuttle service to 'Catarata Los Murciélagos'. The taxi ride from the Monteverde town center to the waterfall will take about 15-20 minutes and cost around $10-$15.

  • Walking

    If you are staying close to the waterfall in Monteverde, you can walk to Catarata Los Murciélagos. From the center of Monteverde, head towards 620 Monteverde Road. The trail to the waterfall can be accessed from this road. Be prepared for a hike as the paths can be steep and uneven. Make sure to wear appropriate footwear.
