Getting There

• Train

  Start your journey from Bordeaux Saint-Jean train station (Gare Saint-Jean). Purchase a ticket for the train to Sauternes. The trip typically takes around 35 to 40 minutes. Once you arrive at Sauternes station, exit the station and look for local buses or taxis to take you to Château d'Yquem, which is approximately 4 kilometers away.

• Bus

  From Bordeaux, head to the Bordeaux Saint-Jean train station. Look for the bus service that goes to Sauternes. The bus journey may take around 1 hour. Upon arrival at Sauternes, you can walk to Château d'Yquem, which is about a 50-minute walk (4 km) from the bus stop. Alternatively, you can take a local taxi from the bus stop to the château.

• Bike Rental

  If you're feeling adventurous, rent a bike in Bordeaux. You can follow the cycle paths along the Garonne River towards Sauternes. The distance is approximately 40 km, and it should take you around 2 to 3 hours depending on your cycling speed. Once you reach Sauternes, head towards Château d'Yquem, which is clearly marked on most maps.

  For the most adventurous travelers, consider walking from Bordeaux to Sauternes, which is about 40 km away. This will take several hours (approximately 8-10 hours depending on pace). Start from the city center and head southeast towards Sauternes, following the D113 road. Make sure to take breaks and enjoy the beautiful vineyards along the way. Upon reaching Sauternes, you can walk to Château d'Yquem, which is located about 1 km from the center of Sauternes.
