Your Itinerary

Panstwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau

Be collected from your accommodation and transported in an air-conditioned minivan. Visit KL Auschwitz 1. Walk through the iron gate bearing the notorious slogan Arbeit Macht Frei, which means Work Sets You Free. See 22 brick barracks, which were prison for hundreds of thousands of victims of the Holocaust. The most chilling is block number 11, the so-called prison within the prison. Block 11 contained special torture chambers including dark chambers or standing cells where various punishments were inflicted on prisoners. The first attempts to kill people with Zyklon B took place in this block. The only preserved crematorium and gas chamber is located at the end of the camp.  After the visit to KL Auschwitz 1, travel in the minivan to KL Auschwitz 2 Birkenau. This part of the camp is 25 times larger than Auschwitz 1 and it was the largest of the death camps. Over 1,100,000 people were murdered here. Between 62 mostly wooden barracks first designed as stables are the ruins of 4 crematoriums and gas chambers, which were destroyed by the Nazis in an effort to hide the evidence of their crimes. End your visit at the Memorial and pay respect to all of the victims of Nazi's genocide.

So much to see. Definately will leave an impact on you. Lots Of walking involved, wear flat shoes as uneven ground.

The driver was great. Being at the camp was an experience. However, I paid $60 USD and we could not hear the tour guide. She was a little old lady who spoke very quietly. When the other people asked her to speak up she said she couldn't and could only give out a pamphlet on where to go to get more information at the end. I would not recommend you book with this company. They need headphones and a guide that can speak louder so everyone can hear. The price I paid was not worth it as I did not get here anything from the tour guide.

The guide had no pacing awareness. He rushed through the most interesting parts, and talking hard to understand English.

DO NOT BOOK WITH ROYAL TOURS First of all we recieved a message that our tour would start at 11:15 in stead of 11:45, this was communicated clearly and not a problem at all. However on arrival it was soon clear that our tour leader was quite hard to find, he was not clearly marked. And a lot of the other members of our group were late. Dispite of the tickets stating that the group would not wait for late arrivals we had to wait 45 minutes in the freezing cold and snow. Quit a punisment for the people that did bother to show up in time. The guide spoke English but clearely had difficulties with the language what led to certain infomation not comming across clear of correct. He was friendly and knew a lot but was too timid to share unless asked directly. The biggest problem however occurred at the end of the tour. Our guide rushed us trough Birkenau without reason. And at the end he just vanished after telling us to just take a shuttle bus back. Problem 1, not one person in our group knew this was going to happen. He did not inform us before getting on the bus to Birkenau, otherwise we would have driven there by car. Problem 2, he didn't even care to mention where we could take this bus wich led to great confusion Problem 3, i contacted Royal tours and they gave no explenation just that we needed a shuttle bus that came every 15 minutes. Poblem 4, when we finally found a bus he drove off just before we could get on. Wich leades me to Problem 5, 20 minutes later, still no buss. We then found out by internet that the busses came every 30 min instead of 15. So we waited on the darkening side of the road for 45 minutes. I then called Royal Tours again, they said a buss would come at 16:30. We then stopped a guard leaving from Birkenau and askes for help. He said no more busses were coming... We were all cold and slightly frostbitten. Luckely a cab came by somewhat later and drove us back to the parking lot at Auschwitz. GIANT PROBLEM. As we arrived we saw our car locked in the Auschwitz parking lot behind a giant gate. Nobody answered the phone, we had no way to get home. Luckely our taxi driver was a Polish angel andoved heaven and earth to get the gate open. We were able to get our car out and start our drive home. Only then did I get a call from RT that a guard would come to help. To be honest the woman on the phone then really sounded equally spooked and tried her best to help. Needless to say this was one of the worst days of our vacation and one of the scariest moments in my life. Had you just been clear from the beginning there would have been no issue. 1, tell People that the bus back is NOT included, make the guides tell people before getting on that bus to Birkenau. Because standing next to a dark lonely road in the could will lead to problems. 2, tell people that the parking lot at Auschwitz will close at 16:00 so that people are not stranded without their car in a strange country where they have no idea what to do or how to get home. If we would have known this would have been a rushed but nice visite, now it was a nightmare.

I called the company the day before the tour to confirm again everything as I booked it for friend who came for it especially from UK. They left earlier from pick up point and never called us to find out, if we were coming or not. They decided to send some messages via Whatsaap as only one channel to contact -Does everybody have a network cover or WIFI ?? Very very disappointing. The tour was booked via getyourguide and they were excellent and helpful.

A friend and I booked the auschwitz tour. We had a text the night before saying it would be delayed by half hour. Then when we go there they had obviously overbooked as they had to ask get off the coach. Delayed intotal by a good hour. We asked about of there was going to a toilet break at the site. To which a rather rude guide said " if it's really needed we can try". When we go to the first camp the man rushed off didn't explain we'd have another guide when we go past security. He didn't tell us where to wait or who we'd have. Even though when we got off the coach the driver explicitly stayed don't forget to let them know what's going on. When we got past security eventually a tour guide came over. Asked if we were all there and told us to follow him to the headsets. He didn't know how many people were ment to even be in our Group. Obviously none of us knew either as we had never met each other. The tour is self was very basic. We had headsets connected to the tour guides mic. THERE WAS A POLISH GUIDE WHO SPOKE THEN ANOTHER GUIDE WHO TRANSLATED HIS WORDS TO ENGLISH. So be warned its not really an an English tour. His translations left alot to be desired. The pace is insane. You're practically running. No time to look at anything. This is a place you're only likely to visit Once. A place of huge cultural and historical significance and you cannot take in anything. As I mentioned earlier ther toilet situation. I saw a sign for wc about 1.5hrs into our tour I had to stop him talking and demand to go. This company has 0 customer service skills. About 5 of us nipped to the wc. When we got out they were beginning to walk off. He said is everyone here, didn't wait for a response then walked on. A lady was still in the loo! By the time we got to the second site we gave up walking with the group and just took ourselves around. Terrible tour avoid at all costs!

We were very happy with the tour which our hotel booked for us. We were picked up on time from our hotel in Krakow. Both our guide/driver Jakob and our guide at Auschwitz-Birkenau Ewelina were very professional, knowledgeable and fluent in English. The tour was very well organized. We highly recommend Royal Tours.

The only positive we took from booking the guided tour was the ability to enter earlier than if we wanted to self guide. Arrival / meeting point info was unclear - a link to coordinates rather than a landmark. The headsets were terrible quality - you had to be very close to the guide to be able to hear clearly / at all - meaning you had to keep up with his pace, and he was powering through the tour!!! The tour felt like you’d paid to be just another number being rushed through the process… I felt we missed the opportunity to really absorb the experience, read things, stop and feel emotion, take a photo or two. Instead we were running a 3 hour marathon through the museum as the guide walked and talked - if you didn’t stay within a few meters of him you would not hear any information! Then eventually you’d get left behind if you did try to pause for a moment of thought. Certainly not how we wanted to experience such a powerful place having travelled from New Zealand with this being one of the trips most looked forward to experiences! All exhibit signs have multiple languages so I would recommend working your Auschwitz visit into your travel plans around the individual entry hours (from 4pm I believe) to allow yourself the chance to fully absorb and take your experience in.

Excellent. Would definitely recommend. Organised and informative. Can’t stop thinking about it. Everyone should visit this place so no one ever forgets the atrocities that happened there

The tour was well organised. The start time went back an hour, but I was informed and kept up to date. Marek, our driver was very nice and did his best to make sure all our needs catered for. The tour was with an official guide who was very knowledgeable. Yes you do have to keep moving, so I understand why some people feel rushed, but I did find sufficient time to see everything.
