The Venerable Thich Quang Duc Monument
Thich Quang Duc was a Vietnamese Mahayana Buddhist monk who famously burned himself to death at a busy Saigon intersection in 1963 to protest the South Vietnamese government's persecution of Buddhists. The monument, built in his memory, features a bronze statue of the monk sitting in the lotus position atop a granite pedestal. Visitors can also see a relief depicting the fiery self-immolation that made him a symbol of Buddhist resistance.
