Meet outside the front of the book store. The book store can be reached by public bus (circulator) or by using the metro (union station stop) is the closest but still requires a 10-15 minute walk). A taxi or an Uber can also be used.

The tour will end at 7th and Pennsylvania St SE. You see Eastern market, a public market housed in a 19th century brick building and if the tour is on Sat or Sun between 9-4 pm you can enjoy artisans and food vendors that fill the streets.

Your Itinerary

Solid State Books

We will begin with a visit to Solid State, a black-owned independent bookstore featuring a diverse selection of fiction and non-fiction titles, an extensive children’s book and young adult section, and a selection of stationery and gifts that appeal to customers of all ages. Solid State Books also offers a variety of community programs. Here you will be able to grab a water/soda which will be included, from this bookstore we will take a 15-20 minute walk (or Uber based on weather conditions, which will be included in the price) where you will see more of the Capitol Hill including neighborhoods and beautiful architecture. During our walk we will see The Capitol (brief stop), The Supreme (brief stop) Court and Library of Congress (pass by)

East City Book Shop

East City -Is an independent women bookstore founded by local bibliophile Laurie Gillman the quaint space offers a collection of books as well as small unique gifts including some for kids.

Capitol Hill Books -Located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood since 1991. A quaint bookstore with many rooms, includes sections like the Mystery Room, the Cultural Closet and the Weird Section.

Eastern Market

(Pass by)

Eastern market is located in the historic heart of Capitol Hill. A premier place for fresh food and art. Since the tour will end here, feel free to stop and spend more time.
