Villa Pliniana

The villa, located in a wooded inlet of the lake, took its name from Pliny the Younger, who described an intermittent spring of a karst nature. A reference to the source can also be found in the work Naturalis Historia by Pliny the Elder, which reports that «In the Comense area, near the shores of Lake Lario, there is a copious source that always waxes and wanes every hour». Leonardo also described a visit to the spring that took place a few years before the palace was erected. Currently the complex is managed by the luxury hotel chain Sereno Hotels which organizes ceremonies and cultural events.
Orrido Di Nesso

The Orrido di Nesso is formed by a deep natural gorge located at the mouth of the Tuf and Nosè valleys; it forms from the confluence of the two small rivers that bear the name of the two valleys, whose waters form a path between narrow gorges and rock leaps. The most spectacular point is found right at the gorge, where the waters form the famous waterfall. The difference in height from the beginning of the waterfall to the waters of the lake is about 200 meters. The bridge that connects the two sides of the gorge is of medieval origin and is called the Civera bridge.

Villa Oleandra, the home of George Clooney, turned out to be a residential settlement already in Roman times. During the 20th century Villa Oleandra was sold to owners of American origins, the last of which was the family of billionaire John Heinz. Legend has it that it was the heirs of the «King of ketchup», in the summer of 2001 who offered help to the bewildered George Clooney, left in the lurch by his Harley-Davidson right in front of the gates of the villa. The American actor fell in love with Villa Oleandra at first sight and in 2002 the Heinzes sold Villa Oleandra to their friend George.

Villa Le Fontanelle

Villa Fontanelle was built in 1781 as a summer residence for the noble Fontanelle family. In 1977, when it was purchased by Italian designer Gianni Versace, it was in a state of disrepair and the new owner set about restoring it to its neoclassical glory. Before Versace's death, celebrities such as Sir Elton John, Sting, Prince, Diana Spencer and Madonna were regular guests at the establishment. The villa has often been used as a location for films and television shows, including the famous James Bond film "Casino Royale", where the villa was used as the residence of Mr. White.
Villa d'Este

Villa d'Este, originally Villa del Garovo (or Villa del Garrovo), is a patrician residence. The first building built in the area where Villa d'Este now stands was commissioned by Gerardo Landriani Capitani, Bishop of Como, who in 1442 built a female convent here, near the stream called Garovo. Villa d'Este is today a hotel intended for the wealthiest clientele, and is also a destination for high-level congress tourism. Since 1975, the Ambrosetti Forum has been held annually at the hotel, a summit of international importance on politics, finance and industry. The villa was also one of the locations of the famous film "Ocean's Twelve", where the outdoor swimming pool was used for some scenes.

The city rises elegantly along the shore, surrounded by majestic mountains which are reflected in the serene waters of Lake Como. Villa Olmo

Villa Olmo owes its name to a magnificent elm tree at the time more than a hundred years old, no longer existing today, which legend has it was planted by Pliny the Younger. Built by the will of the Marquis Innocenzo Odescalchi, it was to serve as the summer residence of the Marquises. The construction work began in 1782 and was completed in 1797. In 1924 the villa passed to the Municipality of Como which made it the venue for conferences, painting exhibitions, cultural and musical events. In 1927 the villa hosted the international exhibition on the first centenary of the death of Alessandro Volta. The villa was used as a setting for the filming of some scenes of the film "Madly in Love" by Adriano Celentano.
