Drive along a 21-mile (34 km) barrier island off the mainland of Morehead City, NC. The island, separated from the mainland by Bogue Sound, runs east to west, with the ocean beaches facing due south. It is a beautiful drive with sparkling waters and suggested possible stops to pick up a quick snack or drink and view the beautiful Atlantic Ocean or Bogue Sound.

Next stop is Fort Macon State Park. Fort Macon State Park is on Bogue Banks in Atlantic Beach, the park opened in 1936. It is a great place to wander around and view the cannons, barracks and many historic artifacts. Visit the museum and take a hike on the scenic nature trails overlooking the ocean or the sound.

The tour of the Crystal Coast continues across the bridge onto the mainland to the majestic downtown area of the Morehead City waterfront. The waterfront projects phenomenal views of the open water.
