Excellent depiction of life as a slave and the culture of the gullah Geechee people. Presenter was an actual descendant of the Gullah people. Several slave dwellings onsite all dedicated to the education of the different aspects of slavery through the civil rights movement. The plantation home was beautiful inside but you can only tour the first floor and no pictures allowed. The Oak lined road was breathtaking. Many movies were filled here. There is a tour of the grounds that departs every hour. We missed it and didn’t feel like waiting an entire hour. The grounds tour should be every 1/2 hour so people don’t have to wait. Also there’s a beautiful dock onsite, stables, a gift shop, visitors center, gardens and much more!!

All of the available tours/activities on the plantation were great with the exception of the house tour. Limited to a few rooms and was r a full house tour. That was a little disappointing. The gullah geechee ahow is a must see

This was definitely more of a self-guided tour, which is different than other plantation tours I’ve been on before. They had speakers to give talks at certain times, but I wasn’t able to catch all of them so I guided myself around to the different buildings on site. I think I would have preferred a guided experience due to the weight of the history there, as it felt too “touristy” given the horrible things that the enslaved people who lived there went through. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the covered tractor tour where we saw more of the acreage and saw an alligator, turtles, and deer and her two babies!

The slaves house's and the Gullah talk was amazing and how it all came about, the tour of the property was very informational.

Accessibility: All of the grounds are grass or hard compacted sand. Electric wheelchairs or motorized scooters work the best. The Plantation Mansion has approximately six steps to get inside and several steps from room to room. If the person is able to get into the Plantation Mansion and from room to room the tour guide can provide a chair for them to sit down on in each room. Please let them know that is what you would like upon being greeted by the tour guide. The brick slave cabins have two to three steps to get inside. However, once inside you will be able to see everything without having to walk too far. The Plantation Tractor Tour has approximately three to four steps to get into it. Our staff can help get the person onto the tractor ride if needed. Once on the tractor tour, riders remain seated for the duration of the thirty minute tour.
