Built in 1738, Drayton Hall plantation is located on the Ashley River. It is one of the best and most preserved examples of Georgian-Palladian architecture in the United States. While at Drayton Hall, guests will participate in a one-hour guided house tour led by a professionally trained historic interpreter. The tour will take guests through the main floor of the house as well as the cellar, all while exploring the history of Drayton Hall and those who labored and lived on the property. Guests will explore the grounds and galleries and see a variety of significant and historical aspects of Drayton Hall’s past such as furniture, artwork, manuscripts and botanical plantings based on Drayton family documents. Guests will have the opportunity to ask the interpreter any questions designated to the history of Drayton Hall after the tour. The tour is 3.5 hours with 1 total hour of travel time from the Charleston Visitors Center to Drayton Hall and back after the tour ends.

My wife and I booked two tours with Chicora Tours during our time in Charleston. The Drayton Hall Tour and the Middleton Place Tour. Both were great, offered different experiences. I really enjoyed Drayton Hall. It was so beautiful and historically preserved. The grounds were well taken care, the staff there was highly knowledgable and it is a very peaceful place. Booking through Chicora Tours was convenient because they provide transportation to and from Charleston. I was told getting an Uber or Lyft back from the plantations was hard. I'm glad I didn't! I checked my phone and it said there were no drivers in the area... Our guide Nick also showed us around the grounds of Drayton Hall before our house tour and even showed us some of Downtown Charleston on our return back to the city. It was a pleasant surprise! I highly recommend Chicora Tours you will not be disappointed.

Drayton Hall is a preserved plantation that shows how life is like during the time of slavery. The docent, Florence, is excellent. He brings to life what living there at that time is like. Highly recommend. .

I had a great time on this tour. Matthew is very knowledgeable not only about Drayton Hall but also about Charleston local history. You can tell that he is very enthusiastic about the topic which makes a great difference in a guide. If you let him know your particular interest in local history, he will gladly show you sights around town pertaining to that interest. As for the Drayton Hall tour, it is conducted by the docent, Florence, and he is excellent. It is a very informative and educational tour which is what I am looking for in this type of tour.

This is a wonderful tour to Drayton Hall! Nick at Chicora Tours picked us up promptly at both ends of the tour and was very knowledgeable about both the plantations and the Charleston area. The next time that I am in Charleston, I will definitely use Chicora Tours for my airport transfer and my other tours. Highly recommend Chicora Tours!

Going to Drayton Hall was my favorite experience in Charleston! It was a very unique place that has a tremendous amount of history and preserved architecture. I went with my husband and parents and the entire tour process was very enjoyable and easy. The most convenient part of the tour was the fact that transportation was provided to and from Charleston. Our guide, Nick (also the owner of the company) was very knowledgeable and professional. He picked my family and I up from the Charleston Visitors Center in a spacious and comfortable Sprinter-Van. The ride out to Drayton Hall was a little under 30 minutes and he told us history and stories about Drayton Hall and Charleston the whole ride. The house tour of Drayton Hall was the highlight of the tour. It was about an hour long and our docent was very interesting and answered all of our questions. After about 3 hours of being at Drayton Hall Nick took us back to Charleston. I have heard that getting a taxi, Uber or Lyft to any of the Charleston area plantations can be challenging (which is why I choose this tour.) I highly recommend using Chicora Tours and visiting this wonderful place during your trip to Charleston.
