We went on a five day tour with our guide Loc Ly. It was Tet (New Year) which was a special time to go. We were leisurely riders, one not very confident and Loc was adaptable and flexible in organising an appropriate itinerary. I could not recommend his services more highly. As well as the riding there were other activities which we enjoyed, one of which was a delightful surprise. The riding was flat, apart from bridges over canals, usually without much wind, it was often shady and always interesting.

Angkor Wat - Saigon 10 Days Cycling holiday There were two parts of the tour – Cambodia and Vietnam. Cambodia five stars hands down, Vietnam three stars, at a push. And the main difference was in the guides. Cambodia was simply brilliant, better than I could ever imagine. Sin, our guide, was simply the best and the whole tour was really well organised. We were informed of what the day is going to be like, breaks were timed perfectly, Sin and the driver always prepared various refreshments for us, every day different speciality so we got to taste Cambodian food. Sin brought us to a local market, introduced us to different fruit, Cambodian traditional desserts, I would’ve never tasted this without a local guide that wanted to show us the best from Cambodia. I was leaving Cambodia with a smile on my face and a bit of sadness about saying goodbye to Sin. We crossed the border to Vietnam and that was when it all went downhill. After a very lengthy process crossing the Cambodian/Vietnamese border we met our new guide, Mr. Trung. The first impression wasn’t the best and, unfortunately, set the tone for the rest of the tour. We had asked, numerous times, to get local experience instead of having meals in touristy restaurants, yet, Mr. Trung booked a hotel for our dinner in Chau Doc, even though there was one restaurant right next door and another across the road. Hoping for the next day to be better, unfortunately, it got worse. Starting at 7.30am and arriving in our new hotel at 7pm, with barely any breaks. No fruit, drinks, refreshments, unless you want to call a banana and a handful of peanuts that. We eventually had to ask for lunch, Mr. Trung found some random home place where they made beautiful food for us, which was a great experience. Off for more cycling, no communication from the guide, no showing us what’s around, where are we cycling, we had to ask for another break, as the weather was scorching and we were running out of water. After finishing the cycle for the day we boarded the van and drove for 3 hours to Can Tho, sourced our own dinner and barely spent 12 hrs in the place before setting off again. Can Tho looked like a place worth exploring, unfortunately we didn’t get to see any of that. Another day, another cycling in a loop and boarding the van to get to our next destination. The Vietnamese part was disappointing, as I assumed we would cycle to get closer to our next stop, not cycle practically in a circle and then drive. Fruit, snacks, drinks were non-existent, until the last day of the tour. The food was amazing though and choice of places to eat couldn’t have been better. However, Mr. Trung was just rude, didn’t seem to be interested in the tour, interested in us as a group, was distant and never bothered to learn our names. To him, I was a ‘miss’, ‘lady’ or ‘excuse me’. He barely took any photos, didn’t engage in conversations much and his English was poor. Complete opposite to Sin. Overall, I am delighted I chose a cycling tour as it helped me to get to know the countries much better than just driving around sitting on a bus. Cycling through villages, people waving at us, kids giggling, cows getting in the way, monkeys walking around, catching sunset in Phnom Penh, this all made my holiday unforgettable.

Overall an amazing trip, we did 14 day bike trip which started in Bangkok with JoJo and Coco as our support through Thailand, We ate some awesome meals at local restaurants (away from other tourists) and had a great cycling experience. After a quick 1 hour border crossing we met our new driver Seal (possibly spelt wrong) who along with Kuysin (our guide) led us through Cambodia, a wonderful 3 days around Angkor Wat (which we explored by bike often getting far from the crowds). A visit to floating village with amazing home cooked lunch (wish we were able to dine like this every day of the tour!) On to Phnom Phenh for a change of pace. Finally cycle in Cambodia through farmlands down toward border. Another border crossing, this one in sweltering heat and low tin sheds and I suspect learning immigration officers (who sat in aircon) left us tired and hot when we finally crossed to Thailand. Our new team of Trung (guide) and new driver (who we called Bobby but it turned out that was not his name, one of many miscommunications). 3 awesome and different days cycling Mekong Delta, through little villages where constant call of ‘hello’ followed by gales of laughter was our enjoyable soundtrack. We also cycled straight through numerous wedding venues (set up on street) often blocking whole road! Once again we begged for local food experience and Trung excelled in finding us places. Our tour finished in Ho Chi Minh. First prize for snacks on cycling days sits between Coco and Seal. JoJo gave us an amazing start and introduction. Kuysin is now our new best friend who rejuggled things at our request. Trung and “Bobbie” for finding local places when we rebelled against tourist food. Awesome tour and great way to get overview of 3 countries and eat so much food!

Thanh Ut guided us around parts of the Mekong Delta and took excellent care of us from the minute we met him to the time we said goodbye. The tour by bike was relaxed, he showed us wonderful paths, brought us to meet coconut famers and rice noodle makers and on boats along the river. The bikes were super, really comfortable. We felt great after our time with Ut and the excellent driver Toan and my only complaint is that it had to come to an end!

Fantastic 4 day tour cycling around the Mekong Delta. My guide Ut and the driver Tam were wonderful hosts, really looked after me. The hotels we stopped at were of high quality in some interesting towns. Would definitely recommend.

We had an excellent biking experience for 3 days in Vietnam. Our guide Mai Thieu was fantastic. Thieu took us all around the Hoi An area, through quiet villages, rice fields, and beautiful countryside. All the journeys were on back roads and quiet paths away from busy streets. Thieu's local knowledge was extensive, and he knew just where to take us for amazing meals and local delicacies. Thieu also took lots of great photos and videos too. Thanks for the great memories. We can't wait to come back again for more!

This is an excellent way to see the backroads, jungle paths, local ferry boats, roadside food stands and the rich agriculture of the delta. Vietnam by Bike organises a first rate experience. We were very happy with our guide, Loc, who was a wealth of knowledge of the history and economy of the region as well as having an excellent command of the geography: he seemed to know every route and was able to adjust his itinerary for any request. We loved being able to stop for unexpected treats like the lion dance at a 300 year old temple, or buying fresh wild honeycomb from jungle bird hunters. This trip is great if you are moderately fit, comfortable on a mountain bike and possess some patience for the unexpected. We were especially lucky to be the only guests, so we could really set our own pace, but we could imagine that Loc would be able to manage larger groups with his usual panache. The local food was consistently delicious and the hotels were clean and generally quiet. Overall - highly recommended!
