My Son Sanctuary

40 kilometers to the West of Hoi An is My Son Sanctuary - Vietnam’s most important site of the ancient kingdom of Champa. Between the 4th and 13th century a unique culture which owed its spiritual origins to Indian Hinduism developed on the coast of then contemporary Vietnam. This is graphically illustrated by the remains of a series of impressive tower-temples located in a dramatic site that was the religious and political capital of the Champa Kingdom for most of its existence. Located in the heart of a beautiful valley and surrounded by high mountains ranges My Son was named a Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO in 1999. Originally built with wood, they were completely destroyed by fire in the 6th century and restored in the 7th century by Sambhuvarman who rebuilt the temples with locally made bricks. Up to the 13th century, more than 70 similar temples were built, establishing My Son as a sanctuary of Hinduism in the Champa Kingdom.

The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Being in a small group with total of 5 people was helpful. The van was very comfortable. Worth the half day trip.

Good trip, good guide. Booked a trip with 16 people max and ended up being just the two of us and the guide and driver. Was direct to the site and back, there isn't tonnes of info at the site but the old temples are interesting to explore and look around and also a dancing show at the end.

Couldn’t have asked for a better tour! Mr. Mot (Tom) is probably the funniest & most knowledgeable guide in Hồi Ăn. From local recommendations to stories, you get the full experience traveling with the guy. 10/10 would recommend. Good word? 😉

We had a great tour with a really friendly and personable guide called Vin. He was extremely knowledgeable about the ruins and about the history of the area, giving us lots of extra information and bringing the ruins to life. Would really recommend if you are in Hoi An for a few days!

Contacted the night before by email and message at front desk of hotel to confirm times & pick up.Picked up from our hotel at the time stated relatively new mini bus with air conditioning. Bus held 12 only 6 on tour. Cold water provided. Scenic drive out to My Son with the guide pointing relevant points of interest as we drove to site (about 90 mins). The site was empty on our arrival (just before Covid 19 hit a number of countries had already stopped their nationals travelling). The site is small but worth seeing. We had to take an electric bus up to the site from the car park I would have preferred to walk as it was less than a mile. The guide was very informative and answered any questions brought up by the group. We had nearly 2 hours walking around and then back on the bus to Hoi An. We asked to be dropped in the Old town not at our hotel which the driver and guide facilitated. We had considered renting a scooter and making our own way there but it is quite a considerable distance, the weather very hot, traffic intimidating and roads are not always hard surfaced. Worth the money

I really enjoyed this tour - not only because it was full of historical significance but I wasn’t sold anything to. We did the tour with another couple and managed to avoid the large groups. Because of this, we were able to be flexible with our time at the various sites that we visited. I think the cultural performance at the end was a little boring - perhaps too long especially as there is quite distance to cover to get back to the exit from that point. MySon is a must visit - better than Ba Na Hills (shock, gasp - yup, I said it)

We did this tour as part of a group of 8. We found it well-organised. We managed to arrive fairly early on the site. The driver was safe and the bus was ok. And most important: the tour guide was very good, informative, with a good command of English. We found the price attractive. Very happy with our half day in My Son.
