Bab Al Fahs

It is the main gateway to the south of the medina, linking the old city with the new one. It opens onto the Plaza del Gran Socco, known as the Plaza del 9 de Abril. The gate gives access to the souk, which is separated from the square by a wall whose limestone blocks are arranged in a typically Roman structure. Therefore, it is assumed that this access point to the city is very old. Bab Fahs, which means "inland" in Arabic, was the gateway to the interior and the surrounding countryside.

From here, the view of the sea is unparalleled. Bab Bahr means “gateway to the sea”. It is one of the most famous gates of Tangier which makes the link between the walls of the medina and the port of the city. Located a stone's throw from the stairs leading to the American Legation, formerly the United States Consulate in Morocco, the gate was built by the Portuguese between the 14th and 17th centuries. It overlooks the old tanneries, donated to the city by Pasha Alil in the 17th century, of which only ruins remain today.

During our visit to the Old City, we will wander for more than two hours through its ancient alleys. We will stop at the oldest mosques there, as well as Christian churches and Jewish shops. The tour will also include a visit to the vegetable and fish market, traditional craft shops, and spice shops. As for lunch, it can be eaten in the Old City.
