From the time we met at the dock, during the short trip to the outfitters and all during the adventure, the guides were incredible. They were funny, knowledgeable and very engaging. These men and women took what would have been a typical day of canoeing in a glacial lake with absolutely stunning views and a trek across land that had formerly been buried by this massive glacier and turned it into an adventure of a lifetime. We stood next to a tree that had been buried by the glacier that had been carbon dated as being 2500 years old. We lifted a small chunk of glacial ice about the size of a brick that weighed five times as much as a brick. We tasted glacial ice, so cold and dense that we warned not to bite it. The stories, the laughs and the education that these men and woman provided during the day made this one of my favorite experiences of the entire cruise. I would highly recommend this excursion to anyone who likes adventure, beautiful scenery and a great time

Kimball was the greatest guide, our kids now want to raft in California. Dave is a horrible guide, scared the children and threw rocks at a bald Eagle, just appalling.

I can not recommend Above and Beyond Alaska enough for any Juneau based tours. My 72-year old dad and I ventured to Mendenhall Glacier via their Canoe and Paddle Trek and had an amazing time. Our guides Cheffy and Hailie were incredibly kind, entertaining and professional. While the journey was definitely manageable for those who are moderately fit, my dad did struggle at times on the rocky trail toward the glacier. Both guides were so patient and compassionate toward him and never made us feel like an inconvenience. The only downside to this tour is the sad fact that the glacier is visibly receding at an alarming rate, which means that the glacier itself and the ice caves are currently not accessible to walk on from the lake anymore. However, the views and experience are so breathtaking and worth the booking.

My teenage sons and I did the Mendenhall Glacier Canoe, Paddle, and Trek tour. Amazing experience and the guides, Jacques and Cory, were fantastic! Paddling the canoe out definitely requires some work and is not a quick trip, but it is so worth it. We were fortunate enough to be doing this tour when they were no cruise ships coming in so we didn't have to deal with cruise excursionists who weren't prepared/willing to work. Everyone on the trek was fit and up for the effort required. Even on a cold, rainy, windy day, it was a worthwhile, breathtaking adventure.

This was not our first choice tour however we had a great time! Tour guide was nice and pleasant - they did what they were paid to do. We enjoyed both the canoe paddle and the glacier trek. We have some nice pictures but since we have done glacier tracks before in Iceland and Greenland this one was bit disappointing.... Other people on our tour just loved it! as this was their first time glacier experience :)

We had an incredible trip paddling Mendenhall Lake and trekking on Mendenhall Glacier! It was our first time setting foot on a glacier and our guides Jacob and Casey helped us through the whole thing! We will definitely be doing this tour again on future trips to Juneau!

This was by far one of the best things we did while in Alaska. Our guides were the best and very knowledgable about the glacier and surrounding area. it is a must do if you are physically capable.

Even though we were on a cruise we made our reservations directly with ABAK; it saved money and most of the others were part of the ship's excursion so pick-up and drop-off weren't a problem. ABAK was professional and organized every step of the process: answering pre-booking questions, coordinating pick-up, outfitting us, and guiding the group across the lake and on the glacier. Melissa (Mel) and Whisper were great guides. Not only were they fun, knowledgeable, and focused on our safety, but it was evident they were passionate about what they do and respect the environment they're in. The excursion definitely requires some physical capabilities. Everyone has to contribute to paddling the canoe across the lake for 45 minutes to an hour and then be sure-footed while walking on the glacier. Definitely a rare experience made that much more special by ABAK and their guides.

Paddling was hard work so that I got arm muscle pain for next three days. But the guides are very kind and skillful, making sure our safety on glacier. This tour is definitely the highlight of my Alaska trip!

I was worried to go on this excursion because I was the only one from my group. There was only one open spot left. But, it was something I always wanted to do and boy am I glad I did! The people in my group were a lot of fun. I was afraid I was going to be a lot of young folks that I would slow down, but that was not the case at all. We had all age ranges in our group and I didn't slow anyone down! Naomi, our guide, was incredible! Very patient, kind, helpful and extremely knowledgeable. We were in great hands. She had a way of inspiring you that showed she genuinely believed in you! This was by far the highlight of my Alaskan cruise! I will go back and do this again. However, next time, I'm going to book way in advance so that I can bring my husband with me. If you're on the fence...this is a MUST DO....even if you are the only one in your group that wants to do it! You won't regret it and maybe it will be the highlight of your trip too
