Your Itinerary

Alaska Tales

Our tour representatives will meet you at the main cruise ship terminal and check you in for the excursion. You will board a transport bus with a guide that will bring you to the Mendenhall Glacier for 45 minute stop. Here you will be able to explore the area on your own. The parking lot is a very short walking distance to magnificent photo opportunities, hiking trails, visitor's center, and bear viewing platforms raised above the salmon spawning streams. Once the glacier exploration is complete, we will transport you to the local boat harbor. Where you will be met by our captain and crew who will walk you past the fishing fleet to board one of our state-of-the-art boats built for wildlife viewing. The boats are equipped with restrooms, heated cabins, large windows, comfortable seats, and outdoor decks for viewing. We will then begin a 2 hour journey in search of Humpback Whales and other water wildlife native to the area. You can sit back and relax while taking in the beautiful scenery on the boat ride or assist us in searching for signs of whales including water spouts, tail dives, and whales jumping out of the water. No trip is the same as mother nature decides what to provide for each tour. Your naturalist and crew will interpret what you are seeing and explain the behaviors of the massive and beautiful creatures. At the end of the trip the captain will make an announcement and we will return back to the harbor. Feel free to enjoy a complimentary snack and beverage as you soak up your remaining time on the water. Your driver will meet you at the harbor and bring you back through town to the main cruise ship terminal in downtown Juneau where the excursion started.

While at the Mendenhall Glacier, you will have an opportunity to visit the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center if you choose to. The center houses exhibits and elevated views of the glacier.

Amazing time today on this tour, we had Benjamin as our driver and he was super friendly! Saw so many jumpbacks and Sophie and Steph knew their stuff! Really worth while! We were here on our honeymoon and it made it super special!

Logistics (info for meeting point, bus and boat transfers) for trip were great. Tour guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about their wildlife. One can view waterfall at Mendenhall in time allotted, contrary to bus guide’s info that trail should not be taken.

We saw numerous whale and tail sightings. Ben, Taylor and Mark were very personable, knowledgeable and passionate about the whales and the environment in Alaska. It was a great experience. The Glacier was amazing to see. Jay was on time and got us where we needed to be. Recommend for sure!

Was a wonderful trip that we will tell stories about for years. Once picked up by the tour just off the pier, we were taken over to the Mendenhall Glacier where we were free to explore and wander about on our own. Once we were picked back up on the bus we were taken to the tour's docks and led to the boat. It was a nice 2 decker boat with good indoor seating and openable windows. We were given snacks and optional water while headed out to the coves. While we traveled we were entertained by the naturalist, Taylor, with interesting facts and stories about whales and how they migrate, eat, raise young, etc. Once we had positive sighting of whales we were allowed out on the deck either on the main level or the upper deck. A naturalist or deck hand was on hand to answer questions or point out things to us while the captain maintained the proper distance. We got to observe both Humpbacks and Orcas in two different areas. Once time was up we headed back to shore where our bus took us back to town with the option to get off in 2 different spots. Our bus driver was very friendly with stories and information about the area he would tell us during all of our rides with him. He would also point out picture spots as we passed and made a swing by the whale statue in town. Overall it was a wonderful tour that I was very happy to take and will keep in mind for future visits.

Mendenhall glacier is amazing to see. We enjoyed independently exploring the natural beauty. We then went whale watching. Our crew was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Justin, Charlie and Kristen did an excellent job guiding us on our whale watching adventure. Alaska Tales exceeded our expectations on this wonderful excursion. We were blessed with a beautiful day. Highly recommended!

The bus driver started the trip with a bang. He was very knowledgeable about Alaska. The glacier trails were pretty and easy to walk. The falls were breathtaking. Next we headed to the boat with Captain Kyle, Steph, and Monica. Again a wealth of information about whales, Alaska, and the area in general. We saw so many whales and sea lions. The crew told us what to watch for and when to expect to see the tail. They were right on the money. It was about 4.5 hours total. So worth the time and money. Great people.

We went on an Alaskan Cruise. And booked this trip last minute while walking the Pier. we had the best time , saw lots of whales. And got great pictures , the staff were Excellent Nick and captain Greg were very knowledgeable and helpful Jay the bus driver also done an excellent job would highly recommend this for anyone wanting to see whales . when we return we will definitely do this again with this group

Every part of our excursion was enjoyable. From the bus driver who us who picked us up from Port and transported us to the boat crew: Justin, Kacie, and Nate who were friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. The boat was heated and the seats were comfy which was nice after we had walked all day in the rain before we got on our excursion. The crew really made this experience worth every penny. We got to see many blue whales. This was an unforgettable experience.
