Well curated and organised museum looking at DDR, from its inception and the reasons why it was set up, through what life was like to live there and why it failed and there was re unification. Spent about 1.5 hours there.

So much comperhensive information about life in the DDR and user friendly presentation, generally with English translation too. We particularly enjoyed the mock up of the DDR flat. When we visited, it was rather full (popular with school trips) and there is not too much space so, if you can find a quiet time ...

I really don't rate this museum. You walk in without any real introduction as to what the museum is about. There is no obvious area to start to be able to understand the context. Yes it is very 'interactive' but found that it lacked any real detail or story telling. Plus it was all really cramped and way too busy.

So much potential missed for an important part of Germany’s modern history. Museum is too crowded and overheated. There was no exhibit control which meant popular parts of the exhibit (the Trabant & DDR apartment) were difficult to access. Shop was a boring disappointment.

Warm, crowded. The animated “windows” were cool but not enough active displays to hold my attention. A bit disappointed in what the museum had to offer for €15.

The subject matter of this museum 'should' make it a 'must do' attraction for any visitor to Berlin but sadly this was the most disappointing experience we had on our trip to Berlin. Firstly, it's way smaller than anticipated but that doesn't stop them cramming the building with as many people as possible, leading to an uncomfortably claustrophobic experience of inching your way along narrow walkways along with hundreds of other people all trying to look at the same thing. The design and layout is flawed by the fact that lots of the displays are behind a series of doors, but when someone opens any door, traffic stops because the walkway is now blocked by an open door and the person holding the door. Sometimes you'd have one door above another door meaning someone is often disconcertingly trying to open a door somewhere below your waistline or simply reaching across or around you. Lots of captions, again, results in lots of stationary bodies all trying to read the thing at the same time. There is no flow to the museum because you'll literally find yourself with nowhere to go. Granted, it was busy when we visited but I came to the conclusion after 20-minutes of shuffling aimlessly from one thing to another that I was wasting my time and nothing about it was enjoyable. I literally couldn't wait to leave.

Interesting museum to spend a couple of hours. It was fairly crowded when we were there on a Saturday evening, so we skipped some of the displays. Neat representation of life at the time.

This museum is packed with details and is hands on. It is difficult to experience everything when it’s crowded. Arrive early or near closing for best chance to get fewest people. Scared of germs? Get over it cause you gotta touch stuff. Kids will enjoy it because of they can put their paws on everything. If you don’t have kids you will find the kids annoying. The museum should have adult swim hours.

This was ok, but for adults we visited lots of better museums that captured life in the DDR (stasi museum in particular). BUT…if I had brought my kids with me this would’ve been 5* for them. The layout and interactivity was suited to school age kids in particular and I recognise as a family destination this would be a great day out. Less positive for couples but that’s not to knock what is a good museum.

We hadn’t booked this museum beforehand and just came across it. We were so glad we did! It is so interesting, beautifully presented with interactive activities. We felt a lot more informed on the history of Berlin when we left. I would definitely recommend.
