Your Itinerary

Louis Armstrong Park

Our music tour of New Orleans begins just outside the French Quarter at the historic and beautiful Louis Armstrong Park in the Tremé neighborhood. Within the park, we will talk about the historical origins of jazz and discuss one of the jazz greats, Armstrong himself.

Congo Square

We’ll explore the area originally known as Congo Square – one of the first locations in the city where enslaved people and free people of color were allowed to gather and socialize. You’ll hear about jazz’s origins, resulting from a rich mix of cultures in a single city, which combined West African and Caribbean sounds with European musical influences – giving us this uniquely American artform.

French Quarter

From here, we will head into the Vieux Carre, or the French Quarter, and you’ll hear about the origins and culture of jazz while making your way through the oldest neighborhood in NOLA, all while seeing some notable historic sites. Your guide will have chosen a special route for you that evening- to ensure the best music is heard.

Bourbon Street

Along one possible route, we’ll share the history of Bourbon Street and the residential and commercial places where blues and jazz collaborators came to make incredible music. We may even catch a busker performing at the historic French Market!

Frenchmen Street

Or your guide may chose to head to the famous Frenchmen Street, the largest concentration of live music venues in the city. Whatever path is taken, you’ll find yourself at a great Jazz/Music Spot, and your guide will take you inside to listen and enjoy the local scene.

French Quarter

Either way, by being with a local, you’ll learn all about the neighborhood, how to make the most of your time here, and the music culture and how it operates in the Clubs and venues. And to top it off, you will receive a drink on us at one of the stops and you’re very welcome to purchase additional beverages as and when you want them.

This was the 1st tour the evening I landed in NOLA. Sayge was our tour guide and great/informative. You can tell she has tremendous passion for music/jazz. Our small group met at Louis Armstrong Park which was a great starting point. From there we were given a nice broad history of the city, history, and evolution with a focus on music and the pioneers of jazz. Then walked through the French Quarter with Frenchmen St. as the final destination. Sayge was great, so much so I tipped her over 20% (even as this tour is overpriced at $60+). But my only feedback of the tour is that for 3 hours, and only 2 music stops...fell short of what most of the group had expected (I know as several of us stayed on after the tour to venue-hop and share reflections). Perhaps the tour description needs to be revisited but I guess most of us assumed that the city overview/history lessons would be happening as we were at different venues. Would have loved to explore more especially given Sayge's expertise. But! She certainly set us up for a good evening, so for that, thank you.

Definitely an enjoyable tour even despite us being rained out. Our tour guide Pepe was flexible and able to lead the tour in a way where we could stay mostly dry and still visit landmark Jazz locations.

Janet D

Very informative and pleasant tour guide. Very passionate and knowledgeable about jazz. Also helpful with some local food recommendations.

Val was great. She is personable and enjoys what she does. It is apparent that she loves the city culture and expresses that eloquently.

This was a great tour! We learned a lot about the history and origins of jazz, as well as some of the different forms it took over the years. We got to see a lot of important sites and artifacts like one of Louis Armstrong's trumpets! We ended the night with two stops at great jazz clubs to listen to a few different bands, all in all a fantastic experience.

My husband and I meet our tour guide, Sage, by the gates of Louis Armstrong Park. Sage was a font of knowledge regarding the history of jazz in New Orleans and also the current scene. She also was so willing to answer all our questions on not only jazz but all aspects of New Orleans. Sage took us to 2 wonderful jazz venues to listen to some excellent jazz musicians. Thanks Sage for a memorable night.
