Your Itinerary

Gaslamp Quarter Sign

The region was first called Rabbitville because it made a perfect habitat for rabbits. Later, it was called Old Town, and then the Gaslamp Quarter, after the streetlights that bore that name. The buildings here were completed in the 19th century, but this sign was put up much later, being revealed in 1990.

Gaslamp Museum at the Davis-Horton House

The materials for this saltbox-style dwelling, regarded as the oldest in the Gaslamp, were transported from Maine because local lumber was in short supply. Later, it would become the City Hospital.

Horton Grand Hotel

The property now consists of two distinct hotels combined. But in the 19th century, it became the famous Wyatt Earp's residence.

Balboa Theatre

This 1924 building, which had a 1,500-seat capacity initially, was hailed for its superb acoustics and Broadway-sized stage.

Horton Plaza Park

The land for this park was sold to the city of San Diego in 1895 and designated as a historic site in 1971.

Tivoli Bar

This structure, which had formerly served as a blacksmith shop, boarding house, and brothel, was transformed into a bar in 1895 and welcomed Wyatt Earp on multiple occasions while he was a resident of San Diego.
