Forum
The Forum of Pompeii is a Roman forum, buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD and found following the archaeological excavations of ancient Pompeii. The structure was the main square of the city and represented the political, economic and religious center where demonstrations, commercial negotiations and debates took place; it is, of its kind, one of the best preserved of the ancient Italic cities.
Macellum
The Macellum of Pompeii was located on the Forum and as the provision market (or macellum) of Pompeii was one of the focal points of the ancient city. The building was constructed in several phases. When the earthquake of 62 CE destroyed large parts of Pompeii, the Macellum was also damaged. Archeological excavations in the modern era have revealed a building that had still not been fully repaired by the time of the eruption of 79 CE.
Casa del Fauno
The House of the Faun (Italian: Casa del Fauno), built during the 2nd century BC, was one of the largest and most impressive private residences in Pompeii, Italy, and housed many great pieces of art. It is one of the most luxurious aristocratic houses from the Roman republic, and reflects this period better than most archaeological evidence found even in Rome itself.
Teatro Grande
The Teatro Grande is a Roman theater, buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 and found following the archaeological excavations of ancient Pompeii: inside it were represented comedies, mimes and pantomimes, as well as the atellane.
Via dell’Abbondanza
The Via dell’Abbondanza is the Lower Decumanus of Pompeii. The name derives from a bas-relief that adorns a fountain placed in the initial section, near the Forum. The road connects in its long route the major nuclei of the city between the Forum and Porta Sarno, such as the Forum, the Stabian Baths, the Theaters, the Temple of Isis and the Amphitheater. Unearthed at the beginning of this century, it is still rich in its decorations, which is why it is the liveliest route in visiting the excavations. Along it there are many of the most beautiful houses, some with two floors; these are residences of the rich Pompeian bourgeoisie, such as the Casa del Criptoportico, the Casa dei Casti Amanti, the Casa di Giulio Polibio, the Casa di Loreius Tiburtinus, the Casa della Venere in Conchiglia and the Villa di Giulia Felice.
