Your Itinerary

Mihai bravu 486

Your Bucharest communist tour will begin with a trip to some of the metro stations built under the Ceausescu Regime. The first line was opened in 1979, and the metro network is completely different from other systems in Eastern Europe, having been built with two purposes in mind: speed of transit and practicality. You will then visit a communist neighborhood that was built especially for the working class. Here you will catch a glimpse of what the day-to-day lives of common people looked under the rule of the communist party. This walking tour is also a perfect opportunity to spot some of the street art that was strictly prohibited during Ceausescu's reign.

Palace of Parliament

Next, you will visit the most famous tourist attraction in Bucharest, the Palace of the Parliament. Originally named "House of the Republic", it was one of the most spectacular projects carried under the rule of Ceausescu. It was built between 1984 and 1997, and it holds the Guinness World Record for the largest administrative building in the world, measuring 240 meters in length, 270 in width, and 84 in height. The building is also known as the House of the People.

Ceausescu Mansion

The final landmark of your tour is the home of the Ceausescu couple, the Ceausescu Residential Palace (Spring Palace). This luxurious estate was built between and 1964 and 1965, and it hosted Elena and Nicolae Ceausescu from 1965 until their death in 1989. After the fall of the communist regime, the Spring Palace was used as a VIP residence for official delegations and foreign presidents, and in 2016 it became a museum. After visiting the Ceausescu Residential Palace, your communist tour of Bucharest will come to an end, and we will drop you off at your hotel.

We are a Study Abroad group coming from Georgia, USA .Our guide Vlad was excellent, great knowledge of all the Romanian Communist history, even one of our professors is from Romania and she said she learned a lot from him today. He speaks perfect English. I recommend Rolandia and Vlad 100% Rolandia has a great customer service .

The Ceacescu home. Talk about self indulgence! This tour helped put a real face on an incredible story, being the 1989 fall of Communism in Romania. Our tour guide, Marcel, gave very detailed explanations and the tour was well planned.

We had an amazing time and learnt a lot during our tour. Iulian was extremely knowledgeable and could answer any question we had about Bucharest and Romania. He was very friendly and easygoing. We can absolutely recommend a private tour with Iulian. Thank you.

If you want to get out of your hotel room in Bucharest and are also interested in history/politics - this is a GREAT tour. Romania has a fascinating history. Our guide, Marcel, was an absolutely a wonderful guide to us for the day! He was so polite and full of history/commentary about Romania itself! Was able to see different areas of the city I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. We also were able to see/ride the subway with a local who knew the ropes. I normally don’t ventured into underground Metros that I am not familiar with, but he made us feel safe so all in all it was neat to be able to say I had the experience here in Bucharest. I was a bit under the weather by nightfall and he was kind enough to bring me to the local market as well as the pharmacy. Translating for us for various things helped tremendously! We really enjoyed the restaurant he brought us too. Great food with a pleasant ambiance/pretty view!

My Husband and I had a wonderful day and extremely interesting private tour with Mikaela. She was very knowledgeable about the Communist era and of Romanian History and Culture in general. Having excellent English we learnt so much from this excellent guide, leaving us inspired to read and learn even more about Romania. Mikaela was also very friendly and kind about my walking issues. She spotted places for me to sit down regularly. A huge thankyou from us both, we would highly recommend this tour and Rolandia as a company.

Strongly recommended if you want to know more about the history of communism in Romania. What makes the tour particularly fascinating was the passion of my guide Cristi that explained the particularities of communism in Romania and the realities from nowadays.

Tons of information about communism and the struggles of the Romanian people. Our tour guide, Ciprian, was very knowledgeable and dynamic. explanations

My grandparents are from China, and they lived under communism, but what I found out in Bucharest do the help of Ciprian exceed my expectation. It's incredible how the Romanian people survived 45 years under a totalitarian regim — a great history lesson for the new generation. Bucharest is not an impressive city, but Ciprian's excellent commentaries and the visit to the Palace of the Parliament, followed by Ceausescu Mansion, are a must for the visitors that have only one day in Bucharest.

I've learnt a lot of things about the communist period. The guide was just perfect. How impressive the Parliament and Ceausescu's villa are!

Our guide was great and answered all our questions and gave thoughtful insights into the things we saw.
