Your Itinerary

Silbury Hill

Visit the tallest neolithic monument that Victorians believed once housed treasure like the Pyramids.

West Kennet Long Barrow

It is rare that more than 1 or 2 other people are here, often we have it to ourselves. A 10 minute walk from the road takes us to this incredibly evocative burial chamber built by the civilisation who are responsible for Avebury, Stonehenge and hundreds of other great monuments. Please note this is up a slope on a gravel/soil path and may not be accessible in bad weather or for those with limited mobility.

Avebury Stone Circle

We will visit the largest stone circle which measures 1 mile in diameter and even cuts right through a village. Much less visited than Stonehenge and you can get up close to the stones too. Partly surrounded by a giant ditch and mound and with multiple stone circles inside.

Admission Included

Avebury

The tiny village of Avebury is enclosed by the stone circle.

Admission Included

The Tanyard

We will walk around the charming village that has been featured in many a television show such as Downton Abbey and Little Dorrit as well as the Harry Potter films. Along the way are a number of charming pubs, bakeries, pottery shops amongst others.

Lacock Abbey

For centuries an Abbey until King Henry VIII had his spat with Rome, it long ago became a private home which at one time was home to none other than the man who invented photography using film. Take a selfie where photos were invented in the stately home upper floor and see the austere stone rooms of the old Abbey on the ground floor.

Admission Included

Fox Talbot Museum at Lacock Abbey

If we have time at the end of the tour we can pop in the small museum devoted to early photography.
