Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp

At the foot of the White Pass, nestled beside a waterfall, discover Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp and Salmon Bake. Liarsville was named for the journalists dispatched to Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush who fabricated tall-tales from this very location. Your Liarsville experience begins with an all-you-can-eat alfresco feast in the forest that includes wild, Alaskan-caught salmon, freshly grilled over an alder wood fire, Chilkoot Chicken, Alyeska au gratin potatoes, Liarsville Rice Medley, Prospector Pete's Baked Beans, and a robust selection of other sides, salads and beverages. Beer and wine are available for purchase. Vegetarian or gluten free? There's plenty to tempt your palate! And, just when you think you've had enough—bring on the blueberry cake for dessert! Come back for seconds, or thirds, while a local entertainer sets a festive mood with Alaskan folk music. After your meal, mosey on over to our gold rush era trail camp. Here, you'll enjoy the waterfall and the authentic exhibits of Liarsville. In the Hippodrome a cast of sourdoughs and dance hall girls will entertain you with a hilarious melodrama and a poem by the "Bard of the North," Robert Service. You'll learn the art of gold panning, then test your new skills in the Liarsville gold fields, where you are guaranteed to find that precious metal that drove people wild with gold fever! Once you've made your fortune, take time to wander through the camp, browse for souvenirs in the Fancy Goods Gift Shop, and visit the bordello and laundry tents to view the antiques and vintage clothing left behind by the miners and ladies of the evening. Help yourself to complimentary cookies and apple cider and have your picture taken with one of the dance hall girls.

It was entertaining and had some history which I liked. Maybe better for kids. The talent was fun and never left character so kudos for that. The snark, wit and banter was funny. The lunch was pretty good. The salads had way too much dressing but the rest was warm and filling in the cold. I liked the random tents and getting an idea of what life may have been like then. Everyone was very pleasant and nice. I did get gold from the panning though I'm not even sure if it real or not. Do I keep it?!?! It was an eclectic and kitschy kind of experience.

We had a great time. Good food and very entertaining. A bit on the hokey side but that was OK. We enjoyed it. It made for a fun afternoon. Nice, slow pace so we could enjoy the day.

The Liarsville Gold Camp was part of the White Pass Railrod and Klondike Highway excursion from our cruise ship. The Liarsville part of this excursion was not worth it. The experience was very hokey with 4 20-something year olds putting on a "show" of singing and dancing that seemed like manufactured fun. The gold panning was also very hokey. I recommend the train part of this excursion but would skip the gold camp.

None. The excursion was average. The food ok. The ride there in a crowded old school bus was not to our liking.

Delicious food, good cook, friendly atmosphere in entire camp. Girls were energetic and entertaining. Was the appearance of the bear real or orchestrated to be part of the experience? (One small complaint- lady in the gift shop was NOT friendly or inviting!)

Maybe my expectations were too high, but this was pretty bad. Our driver was the best thing for this excursion. Dinner was much like what you get at your school cafeteria. Yes, the salmon was baked on an open fire, but it had no seasoning, they had a "sauce" to pour on it, but it was just 1/2 melted, grainy brown sugar, the chicken looked good and my husband like it. There is a pretty, small river that flows through the property, but they insist there is no gold in it. The corny skit tells you that the gold is brought in from Canada (you will get 4 flakes of gold, 12 if you are lucky and get the pan of the day). In my opinion, worth $50, not $125. We made the best of it, but were not impressed. My hope is this review will have them make improvements, not lose business. #RoyalCaribbean

Cute way to spend two hours in Skagway. You get a fun show, pan for gold (it is harder than it looks), and an unlimited lunch with salmon, chicken and sides. There is time to walk around and see examples of what life was like during the gold rush.

The salmon was so dry and the sauce was crystallized. The show was really short but the actors were great. The bus driver as great. The gift shop was very expensive.

Such a great family activity. The salmon was wonderful along with the rest of the food bar. The skit was a little weird for an audience of a lot of kids. They had a group of camp kids along with others. Might have been better if they had a couple productions to change for age appropriate audiences. But the chance to pan for gold was great and we all (almost) took home some gold. We would definitely recommend this to others.

Liked the info about Skagway and the show at Liarsville and salmon lunch. Panning for gold was fun. Make sure you dress warm.. it was a good day. Worth the excursion.
