The trip was great, nice group onboard. We got to see lots of wildlife Eagles, Dolphins, Orca and Humpback Whales, who put on a great display breaching and tail slapping. It was AMAZING to see.

I'd rate the service I received as a zero. We booked through Traveladvisor/Viator Our whale watching was cancelled by the whale watching company. Notification was to be sent May 19th. We never received it. Viator billed my credit card May 26th ???? We followed the confusing meeting instructions in Icy Point, May 18, and there were told our tour was cancelled. Who's to blame? You're taking your chances with Viator.

Great day all around provided by Catch of the Day. The tour operator picked us and one other couple up in a Hummer Limo for the ride from the cruise ship port to the marina. I would highly recommend this excursion over other whale watching tours due to their limit of six passengers. With only four passengers on our excursion, the captain and one crew member, there was plenty of room in the heated cabin and ample space on the outside deck to move around to get that "money shot." The Captain grew up in Hoonah and shared historical and funny personal stories of growing up and living in the area. Early in the trip, we saw a few humpback whales (one very close up) but they went suddenly quiet. Captain said it was most likely because killer whales had been sighted in the area recently and they prey on baby whales. This city girl appreciated the explanation! We were also treated to bald eagle sightings, seals sunning themselves on a buoy in the rain, and a bonus brown bear foraging for food on the shoreline. Absolutely would do this excursion again if I'm ever fortunate enough to be in Hoonah in the future. After the trip, at the recommendation of Captain, we dined at The Fisherman's Daughter and stopped for a cold beverage at Icy Straight Brewing. Excellent choices!

Captain and crew were entertaining. They guided us to see many, many humpbacked whales. You should allow time for a long walk out of the port facility to where limo was parked. Appreciated the boat drop off on the beach closer to the cruise ship.

The hosts were very knowledgable and friendly. From picking us up in a Hummer Limo to finding whales that were feeding. I would definitely recommend them.

Okay. There were 3 of us and another couple on the tour. The other couple were navigationally challenged and we had to wait close to an hour for them to figure out the pick up point. Fortunately, we were the only tour for the day and Capt. Dennis assured us we would get the full 3 hours. Pretty much as soon as we left the dock Capt. Dennis spotted 2 (or 3) humpbacks. We spent the rest of the tour following them. Capt. Dennis had a timer and said they would resurface every 6 or 7 minutes and they did. They never surfaced close to the boat because it's impossible to guess where they would be but it was so fun scanning the harbor every 7 minutes to see where they would pop up. We got plenty of pictures and video though. When we got off our cruise ship another passenger told us he had seen an Orca nearby and had video to prove it. So, if I have a regret it's that we never went looking for that Orca. But! I think we were really lucky to have seen the whales we did. Capt. Dennis said normally that he (and all the other boats) generally had to drive 15 minutes outside the harbor just to find a "bait ball" on the sonar that would attract the whales. And even that wasn't a guarantee of whales. The entity that runs the cruise docks, Icy Straits Point, or ISP have decided that independent tour operators are no longer allowed on property to pick up for tours so follow the directions provided by CATCH OF THE DAY to the correct pick up point. It is NOT the excursion hub. You have to walk to the EXIT of the property on the other side of the round about. Thank you for a great day!

Captain Dennis and Crystal gave us an amazing trip. We went out with them for the first trip of the Season and the Whales performed. The boat was so comfortable and both Dennis and Crystal were so informative and welcoming, funny and the bonus you are picked up and dropped off in a Limo Hummer

This was a good whale tour. The guide was knowledgeable and nice. Snacks were provided. We were able to be inside the enclosed cabin of the boat or out on the bow to see even better. We did see and follow 1 humpback and watch him feeding. The guide told us that others weren’t finding any active whales but we did hear that wasn’t quite true. Overall the tour was good. My only complaint was that the information advertises a 3 hour trip. Our trip from the time we left the marina until we returned to the marina was 2 hours tops. We would have just enjoyed using that other hour to try to see more whales.

Four of us booked a whale watching boat trip. It turned out to be a very exceptional trip. They took us to several different areas where we saw whales. They let us out in the front of the boat which allowed good picture taking. I would highly recommend this trip.

We had an awesome time with Captain Dennis on our whale watching excursion while in Icy Strait Point / Hoonah on our cruise with NCL. We booked this excursion on our own and couldn't have been more excited to be out on the water with only 2 additional passengers besides us (boat only holds 6 passengers total)! From start to finish, we had the best time learning all about Captain Dennis' business (and how he met his wife, LOL) while we motored out to find the whales. We followed the whales and saw numerous dives and breaches. Crystal, Dennis' wife, was responsible for transportation to / from the dock and was just delightful. We highly recommend this company for whale watching!
