This tour was amazing! First of all, the company is top notch. It's a local, family-owned company. I was coming off a bear viewing tour with another local guide and Teresa met me at a local park to give me directions where to meet the tour boat since I had about an hour before that tour started. She was with her family, but was so welcoming and kind that it made me excited for the tour.
I found the boat dock pretty easily, after walking around Hoonah a little bit. The captain and deckhand were so great. They answered all our questions and gave lots of information about the activities of the whales. We were put on to a pod of orcas pretty quickly after reaching the viewing site. Even though it's chance and luck to see orcas, the way the tour was given, and the boat was handled, gave us so much time to watch them and also get some great pictures. It was so amazing I almost cried. We stayed with the orcas for quite a while and then went to find humpbacks, which we did. One was feeding not far from shore and was doing turns and twists to round up the fish. All of this was clearly explained by the guys. It was clear that seeing all these whales and the behaviors was just as much fun for them as it was for us.
The boat was comfortable and easy to move around. There was a woman who couldn't move around the outside deck, but she had a great viewing spot right from her seat through the large windows and she seemed to be enjoying herself very much and not missing anything. The staff seemed genuinely concerned for our safety and comfort. It was a beautiful day on the water with a wonderful family. I would highly recommend Glacier Wind Charters.

Glacier Winds Charters was a fantastic experience from start to finish. This may be one of, if not the best, excursions we have ever done on our two visits to Alaska. The vessel is smaller (no more than 14 on the boat) and well equipped to provide the best views possible of the various whales in the area. We were totally impressed by this family run business from the moment of pick up at the port to the moment we were returned to the cruise ship dock area.

This is a family owned business and the captain and co-captain of the boat are very knowledgeable and experienced. They knew exactly where to take us on the boat to see whales. It was the highlight of our Alaska cruise and we got to see many hump back whales on our excursion. The bonus is that there were only about 12 people on the boat vs a very large group of people on the cruise line tour. I highly recommend going on this excursion for anyone visiting the Icy Strait in Alaska!!!

This was such a great experience! Casey and Kyle were great captain and mate! We saw whales, otters and even a bear on the shore! Such a great family run business! Would definitely recommend them 200%!

We meet our guests at the Excursions Hub. Look for the signs directing you to the Excursions Hub. It can be a 15-minute walk depending on which dock your ship will be using.

Hoonah
We will meet you at the Excursions Hub and transport you in our van to Hoonah (a 5-minute drive), where you will board the boat for your whale and wildlife tour. After returning to the harbor, you'll be met by the van and driven back to Icy Strait Point.
The experience can be subject to change due to bad weather or unforseen circumstances. We always endeavour to give you the best possible experience.
