We will meet you at the Excursions Hub and transport you in our van to Hoonah (a 5-minute drive), where you will board the boat for your whale and wildlife tour. After returning to the harbor, you'll be met by the van and driven back to Icy Strait Point.

We were so happy with this whale watching excursion. The small boat was clean and held 10-12 people. It was fully enclosed so we could stay out of the wind/rain and cold if needed, although the weather our day was good. It also has a nice, clean bathroom. They had hot chocolate on board which was much appreciated! Casey was a young, knowledgeable captain who has grown up in Hoonah. We saw so many humpback whales, one of the highlights of our cruise to Alaska. It is a family run business, perfect from start to finish. Do not hesitate to book this excursion, so much better than seeing whales with 250 people on a big boat.

I can't say enough good things about Glacier Winds Charters! The small boat experience is amazing. Captain Shawn and Kyle were great. They have lived in Alaska for years and are very knowledgeable on the area and wildlife. We were able to see several whales and wildlife during our tour. This was our second trip with Glacier Winds, and we will definitely book them again if we return to Hoonah.

We loved Glacier Wind Charters whale watching excursion. From start to finish it was first class. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Felt safe the entire time. Many, many whales. The boat was very whale watching friendly. Only 12 on our trip. Book early, it sells out fast.

Glacier Wind Charters gave us an exceptional experience on our whale watching tour. We were able to see a number of humpback whales, some of them close to our boat, the Apogee. One whale surfaced within feet of the boat, and we watched in amazement as another did three tail-slaps on the water! We also saw sea otters and a seal. The captain and deckhand were very knowledgeable, providing a lot of information about the area and the sea animals we encountered. They were also very friendly in their interaction with our family. I highly recommend Glacier Wind Charters to anyone looking for a great experience at Icy Strait Point, Alaska!

Great boat, good crew, and an overall wonderful experience. The boat was well suited for whale watching, we appreciate the smaller boats where everyone has a good view. Would use again if we return to Hoonah.

We really enjoyed our tour with Glacier Wind Charters. Communications were thorough and prompt and the excursion meet instructions were clear and easy to follow. Teresa picked us up at the excursion hub right on time and as we drove to the marina she happily told us about the town and even pointed out their family home. She let us know that we would be on their 6 passenger boat "Catabic" with her son, Captain Casey, and due to another couple cancelling due to illness, we would have the boat all to ourselves. Captain Casey was very knowledgeable about the whales and wildlife in the area, and within 10 minutes of getting underway, we saw our first whale. We stayed and watched each whale for a few cycles, and throughout tour we saw 9-10 different whales! They were all very cooperative, showing us nice tails as they dove down deep!. The boat was clean and very comfortable, and the weather that day was beautiful, with clear calm waters like glass, so the whales were easy to find. We even saw an otter! Captain Casey didn't rush us back to the marina at the end of the tour time - in fact we stayed out a little longer to get a few more glimpses of the whales near our cruise ship before finally calling it a tour. Teresa was waiting for us back at the marina and after we said goodbye to Captain Casey, she took us back to the port shopping area. Overall we had a truly amazing tour can't wait to come back and sail with Captain Casey again!

The Best excursion of the week. I went with my wife a few days ago and want to leave this review as i Read reviews before booking. We are from the UK and went on a celebrity ship. This was the only tour we booked independently and so GLAD we did. I booked this months in advance and even then knew it would be good as I was allowed to just pay a small deposit and the lady let’s call her “mum” THIS WILL MAKE SENSE NOT MY MUM was so friendly on the phone. a very short walk or small free green gondola ride to excursion hun or short walk through a train took us 11mins we done both. MUM picks us up on Time and was so friendly. Just about 10/12 of the group. Very very short friendly drive to the boat. The boat was amazing! Binoculars snacks hot chocolate included. We were met by the lady “mum” two adults sons who took us out. The boat Perfect built for the whale watching can walk around all the sides unlike every other boat we saw. Just incredible viewing and felt very safe. The two brothers! Who took us out what amazing people proffesional and knowledgable and made it a great day. Now on too the good stuff we saw! And genuinely the best Time porpoises , killer wales, humpback , otters , seal and on the shore a brown bear. The crew were very respectful to the wales and kept a great distance away yet close enough for amazing photos and videos. You get a sense they care for the animals a lot. We even had an orca killer whale jump next to our boat and in front. This is my first review and had to make this account after our first trip to Alaska from the UK with celebrity. Amazing company highly recommended! Thankyou to the mum And sons. Just the best thankyou for giving us memories for life.

Teresa and Shawn are a friendly couple, full of knowledge and love for Hoonah. We were on the smaller boat which was ideal. Saw whales, sea lions, sea otters, eagle and bears. Definitely recommend this tour. Thank you Teresa and Shawn

I can’t say enough about how wonderful Glacier Winds is. Family owned company, very friendly and professional. Teresa was amazing from the time I booked the excursion, providing very detailed information about how far I’d need to walk (recovering from hip surgery) letting me sit in the front seat, Thank You Again!, to the very end of the excursion. Casey, Shawn and Teresa’s son was the captain. He was a wealth of knowledge and I enjoyed his stories. It was the best whale watching experience ever! We saw whales just driving to the boat. I was the crazy one staying out in the cold, enjoying breathtaking Alaska and waiting for another whale to pop up. I would’ve stayed out there all day. I’ll be back in August and might be booking another trip. Once is never enough!!
