Your Itinerary

The Residenz

The history and special features of the Würzburg Residence from the outside - a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981 and one of the most important baroque palaces in Europe.

Dom

Tour of the Romanesque St. Kilian's Cathedral from the outside and, if accessible, also from the inside. Experience the exciting mix of High Romanesque, Baroque, 1950s reconstruction and interior design from modern decades.

Neumuenster

The Neumünsterstift impresses with its elaborate facade and valuable interior furnishings. You will hear the Franconian legend of St. Kilian, which is closely linked to the Neumünster, receive clear explanations about the modern art and the works of historical eras in the interior and find out why the dome, which is far too large, is actually in the wrong place.

Haus zum Falken

The Falkenhaus with its unique rococo facade was a magnificent inn in the 18th and 19th centuries. Mr. Karl shows you the hidden details in the facade and tells anecdotes about the history of this house.

Marienkapelle

Tour and interior visit of the late Gothic Marienkapelle, Würzburg's only civil church. Learn about the history, architecture, art and why it is a chapel despite its size... and why there have always been shops on the outside wall.

Market Square

Around the market square you can see an "architecture and architectural style exhibition" with buildings from different eras: a Renaissance palace next to the post-war architecture of the 1950s, behind it the Romanesque Hof zum Schwanz, Balthasar Neumann's baroque department store opposite the Gothic church... and in the middle the square an original fountain in the fashion of "revolutionary classicism". All of this is, among other things, the beautiful setting for Würzburg's green weekly market.

Rathaus Wuerzburg

The Würzburg town hall consists of an ensemble of different buildings from different eras. For example, see the medieval building "Grafeneckart" with its rich facade decoration, a painted court linden tree, the tower clock from the 15th century, a sundial, storm bell, etc. The documentation room is about Würzburg's destruction in the Second World War and the subsequent, happy reconstruction. Here you can see an impressive, sculptural model of the ruined city in March 1945 and can use it to understand how sensibly the inner city was rebuilt up until the 1970s.

Alte Mainbruecke

From the Old Main Bridge you have a fantastic all-round view of the Marienberg Fortress, the Würzburger Käppele - Balthasar Neumann's spectacular pilgrimage church, various church towers, vineyards, the Mainviertel, the Steinburg and of course the Main. Your tour guide, Mr. Karl, will tell you the background to all of this and also introduce the 12 saints on the high medieval bridge.

Alter Kranen Wurzburg

Historic harbor facility with a sensational crane from the 18th century. Excellent view from the Mainkai of the Main, the Marienberg Fortress and the beautiful vineyards.
