Hotel Magdalena

My wife and I are just back from a lovely 11 nights at Magdelena and we had a wonderful stay. The staff here are the jewel in its crown. I would love to name them all, but that would not be fair on any that I missed, Pamela, Diamond, Jaheim, Daniel, all giving excellent service with a smile in a place wher what ever you need is "not a problem at all". The room was clean and spacious and well appointed with a large smart TV, and a decent balcony with a lovely see view (as do all the rooms). Pool area was large and clean, a decent swim up bar, and ther are quiet pools at either end of the resort. I have seen on some of the reviews here people saying that you cannot get a drink before 3pm, not true, the pool bar (which has a balcony and seating area) is open every day from early morning. Rhonda and Lisa were super helpful at the front desk went above and beyond to help our stay. There are 3 restaurants and a "pub" that serves food, and here lies my only issue. The opening of the restaurants is a little random, and although a schedule is issued on the Sunday of what will be open for Breakfast, lunch and dinner, it is very much subject to change. The buffet restaurant is always varied and th efood on the whole is excellent, but it is not always open (except for Breakfast). The sea facing Salanka restaurant is very subject to the sometimes strong sea wind and may be closed at a moments notice. There is one restaurant that is regarded as their "fine dining" option, for which you have a limited number of vouchers to enable you to book a visit per stay. Hailed as Caribbean Fusion Cuisine, I was a little disappointed. After a few visits, we quickly realised that the menu was basically reinvented left overs from the buffet lunch of the day. This was also the only place where the service was also lacking in our experience. The pub option is what you would expect, pub style food (very good by the way) but can vary hugely in how quickly it comes out. Also, the pub closes at 11pm sharp, you cannot get a drink here after 11pm. Now, I may be showing my age here, but the one downside I would say is the music played around the pool in the daytime, it was simply too loud. In what was a lovely setting, at low level of occupancy, you do not want pop music pumping out at a volume that would prevent you having a snooze, or even a read. The final point I have to mention is the live Friday night restaurant singer. He was not bad, but again, SO loud, and he stands in the middle of the restaurant encouraging diners to sing along, WHILST THEY ARE EATING!. I could not wait to get out to be honest, although some did obviously enjoy it, it was not for me. The value for money here was however exceptional, and I would recommend a stay.

We stayed 7 nights at the hotel, check in was smooth and simple with Lisa. Our room was ok not spectacular just ok, the air conditioning could be better, however the ocean view was amazing. All the staff are amazing a special shout out to Susan, Pamela and Diamond for their hospitality, there was also a young guy but i cant remember his name he served us for breakfast and lunch in the early part of our stay. Thanks to Troy for showing me where to get the beach towels which was located in the lobby this did not make much sense to me. The food was good but there needed to be more variety, Rachel had a tough job each morning making omelettea but they tasted really good. I was disappointed that the buffet evening meal was not available most nights considering we paid for all inclusive. I could not understand how a carnival event was being held at the hotel which we would have loved to attend but they did not advertise it within the hotel I only knew about it due to social media, it was not clear how to purchase tickets and I think we should have been able to attend for free. The salon is located in a different building not quite in the hotel, I was provided with a lift on the little buggy but it was not available to pick me up. It's a shame that they only have one for such a big hotel. On our final day our toilet was blocked I called the lobby for it to be sorted and expected it to be done when we returned after breakfast. It wasn't, I can only assume it was not done because we would be leaving that day. Not a good end to a lovely holiday. What really makes this hotel great is the staff who need to be commended for their hard work and dedication and ensuring we were well looked after.

Having just spent 10 nights at this lovely hotel where the staff made you feel so welcome and like family.The room was spacious all ocean view cleaned every day but did expect a coffee machine as it says in the hotel description .The only negative about our stay was the buffet only open for breakfast and Fri Sat Eve which left the Crusoe bar where menu was limited and wait time for food and drinks was up to 2 hours and sometimes you never got your drinks.Kalina restaurant was very nice when it was open but again not open every night .Pamela and Susan at breakfast were lovely, Daniel at lunch was also lovely.Lisa always around reception spoke to us every day to see how we were .The hotel is set in beautiful grounds along with Golf course .
