Ox Hotel Manchester

Arrived around 7.45am after a 10.5hr night flight from Mexico. We had pre-booked before arriving and knew fine well that check was 2pm. We have also used this hotel lots of times before and never been an issue getting checked in even at this time of the morning. I asked the man at reception if it was possible to check in and he said “No, 2pm” I then asked if they had any rooms at all that were available and he said “No” A little fed up with the idea of having to wait over 6hrs to be able to get into the room I decided to just get on the earliest train and go back to Scotland, so indeed cancelled the booking with the hotel. I had only just finished doing this when a gentleman walked in walked up to a female on reception and explained he knew he was early but could he check in, answer was “Your class of room isn’t ready but if you would like to upgrade for a little more you can and get into your room immediately” We where never offered this from the man we spoke to neither did he even attempt to help for example, your room isn’t ready but if you would maybe like to wait 2-3hrs we will see if we can clean a room and you can get into earlier. This man on reception has to be the most unhelpful man at a hotel I have had the displeasure of coming across and is a disgrace to this hotel. No conversation, no let’s see if we can help, no offer of an upgrade to help, no would you maybe like to buy breakfast whilst you wait, it was check in is 2pm and that was that!! This man would be better off washing pots in the kitchen as he sure as hell shouldn’t be dealing with the public. Have used this hotel lots of times before and it’s certainly the last.

I have been using this hotel frequently over the last 20 years, not any more. Very disappointing. “Superior” room. One phone doesn’t work, no hot water from the tap. But most annoyingly, the dreadful room service! I ordered pizzas and beer 45 minutes ago, called them to ask how long it would take, they weren’t sure, just “we’re busy”! It’s now over an hour and it still hasn’t arrived. Next time I will be checking into the new hotel Tribe, as Ive had enough as this shoddy hotel.

Our train journey to the airport was not good, numerous cancellations, so we were more than ready to unwind and enjoy a drink and some food, then up to our lovely room for a bath and a great nights sleep before our flight to Orlando the following morning.
