We spent one night at the Sonnenalp hotel as a treat. Sonnenalp has a reputation for luxury and they exceeded our expectations again. We liked to spoil ourselves with the feeling of being in Switzerland which we had visited 5 years prior. The Sonnenalp hotel in Vail is linked to a luxury hotel in Germany close to the Alps. One of us had previously stayed at the Sonnenalp Vail in 2021 and this experience was the main driver to come back. We were welcomed in a very warm and friendly manner. It was charming to be greeted by the receptionist Marei from Germany and that gave the atmosphere a nice touch. We were greeted in our room by fruits with chocolate and were overjoyed to uncover a balcony where we unwound and enjoyed a cup of coffee made with the coffee maker that is in the room. The bathroom had a shower and a huge bathtub that fit two people. The bathroom floor was heated, and it was equipped with two vanities. When we came back from dinner, we found our room had been made up and we found bathrobes and slippers on our bed. We used them to walk down to the spa area and enjoyed the hot tub and the recreation area in front of the fireplace. We even ventured to the outside pool and looked at the stars. It was a magical moment for us. The breakfast buffet the next morning was outstanding. Arguably the best in the world. The bread is almost surely made with German recipes and the variety of options is vast. We loved the Mocha pudding and eggs Benedict. The fruit was perfectly ripe and the pastries delightful. The servers were attentive but unobtrusive and the atmosphere was a perfect balance between luxurious and comfortable. We will definitely return if we are in the area and we will definitely consider staying at the sister hotel in Germany if we visit there in the future.

To start, this is a warm, cozy hotel. It’s easy to relax here. The pool, spa area is a great feature to unwind after a day out in the village. Great location! My wife and I came here for out 17th wedding anniversary. We really liked the cozyness of this hotel and the location was out of the center of the village so it wasn’t too loud at night. Although it seems dated, the charm is that it feels like an old Austrian hotel. If you don’t want modern styling, this hotel is for you. If we go back to Vail, this is our spot.

I stayed here well over 75 days of my 6 months in Vail and cannot speak highly enough of the staff. Yes, the property is perfectly located and everything is walkable (when you can walk. If not, they will drive you to various locations in the village for entertainment or medical appointments, just remember to please tip the Valets as they are amazing people who work very hard to keep your car safe, carry your luggage and greet you with smiles and conversation) Yes, the soaking tubs in the rooms with heated bathroom floors and fireplaces were luxurious, and the food, especially the breakfast spread was all wonderful! I was here mostly on my own from the East Coast (A few friends came to visit) as I was receiving ortho care from the Steadman Clinic and Howard Head Sports Medicine. I also tried Four Seasons, Solaris, and the Grand Hyatt Vail and each time returned to the Sonnenalp due to less than satisfactory stays. Lesson learned. Every staff member from the Valets, Concierge, front desk, room service, and housekeeping to servers at breakfast, we all learned each others names, and you took care of me so well and supported me during my surgeries and recovery. You became my family away from home and for that I am so grateful. I feel like you have all become friends and family away from home and I so very much look forward to returning in a couple months when I come back for my follow ups and then again when I can finally return to skiing. Five stars is not enough for what you all gave to me and I miss you all already. A, “Thank you” is not adequate for what you do!
