Today's "guildhall" stands on a site occupied since 1216 when the merchants of Newcastle first received a Royal Charter.
Trinity House
The Guild of Masters and Mariners of Newcastle was founded in the Middle Ages and once controlled all shipping from Whitby to Berwick.
Newcastle Castle
Newcastle Castle includes the two finest surviving medieval buildings in the city, the Black Gate and the iconic Castle Keep.
